NEW YORK — A doctor, who authorities say sold pain pill prescriptions to an addict who later killed four people in a pharmacy holdup, was found guilty of manslaughter Friday in the overdose deaths of two patients.

Dr. Stan Li also was convicted of reckless endangerment concerning six patients but was acquitted of that charge regarding another patient.

The manslaughter case was believed to be the first in New York against a doctor in an overdose death.

Won't the Supreme Court overturn that?

Prosecutors said Li, who operated a Queens pain management clinic, prescribed lethal amounts of highly addictive medications, including oxycodone and Xanax, to two men who overdosed.

He also was convicted on numerous counts of selling prescriptions, including some to the addict involved in the deadly Long Island pharmacy holdup. The addict, David Laffer, pleaded guilty to murder and is serving a life sentence.

Prosecutors said Li prescribed more than 500 pills to a 21-year-old man in the five weeks leading up to the discovery of his body in a parked car in Queens in 2010. In the other death, authorities allege, Li continued writing prescriptions for a 37-year-old Long Island patient even though it was clear his health was failing, and the patient overdosed in 2009 after getting 500 pills in the last month of his life....
