The US images reportedly show multiple rocket launchers fired at Ukrainian forces from within Ukraine and from Russian soil. One image shows dozens of craters around a Ukrainian military unit....

Earlier Sunday, local separatist commanders told reporters at the site that they could no longer guarantee the safety of the about 14 square miles of debris fields, as the Ukrainian military was advancing toward the area....

The Ukrainian government, which does not control the crash area but considers it an inviolable part of its territory, has been loath to see foreign governments negotiate with pro-Russia separatist leaders based in Donetsk, the capital of a self-declared republic that no foreign state, including Russia, has recognized.
Malaysia has been particularly active in reaching out to the rebel leadership. It brokered a deal last week under which the rebels handed over the downed plane’s data and voice recorders they had seized at the crash site.
That is not going to help Malaysia with the NATO powers; however, notice the handover of the black boxes that have not been tampered with is saved as an afterthought? I guess it will spoil the propaganda tone of the entire article.
What is missing entirely is the Russian evidence that has been presented showing it was a likely strike by western-backed Ukraine forces, possibly a training mistake.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Two Democratic lawmakers from New York on Sunday urged the government to study whether American passenger jets should be equipped with devices protecting them against missiles like the one that brought down a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine.
Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Steven J. Israel said they have asked the Department of Homeland Security, Defense Department, and Federal Aviation Administration to consider technologies that would shield commercial aircraft.
A government study should include specific recommendations on the best technology needed to combat both shoulder-fired and surface-to-air missiles, they said.
Antimissile devices include onboard lasers, warning systems, flares, and infrared systems, costing up to $2 million per plane, Schumer and Israel said.
So who is going to get that contract? Chertoff?
The Democratic lawmakers say two major mishaps have raised red flags that require a study of defense technologies.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down on July 17 by what US officials believe may have been a Russian-made surface-to-air missile fired by separatists in eastern Ukraine. All 298 people aboard died.
And last week, the FAA banned American flights to Israel after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport.

BAMAKO, Mali — Black boxes from the Air Algerie plane that crashed in northern Mali last week will be transferred to France for analysis, the French embassy in Mali said Sunday, as officials prepared for the process of identifying the remains of the dead.
UN peacekeepers located the second black box on Saturday amid the wreckage of the plane, which took off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and was heading to Algiers when it crashed early Thursday near the border with Burkina Faso. The crash killed 118 people, 54 of whom were French.
French authorities say extreme bad weather was the likely cause of the crash but are not ruling out other possibilities, including terrorism.

What it is looking like is this plane actually was shot down and the authorities are lying about it.
Northern Mali fell under control of rebels including Al Qaeda-linked Islamist extremists following a military coup in 2012. Though a French-led military intervention last year scattered the extremists from the north’s cities, the Bamako-based government has warned of their return.
French President Francois Hollande said Saturday he wants the remains of all passengers on the plane to be brought to France. He also said data from the black boxes must be analyzed as quickly as possible.
Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office said it has sent two identification experts to Paris to consult with authorities on supporting the effort to identify the crash victims.
