"Cannabis institutes aim to train workers, patients" by Katherine Landergan | Globe Correspondent   August 04, 2014

NATICK — The two-classroom training school nestled in an office park has yet to open. But school officials say they have had about 1,500 enrollment inquiries, some from as far away as Nepal, India, Spain, and Russia.

“People were asking ‘Do you have dorms?’ ” said administrator Cara Crabb-Burnham.

Some might think it is a joke, but the Northeastern Institute of Cannabis, which will focus on training medical marijuana dispensary workers, is hoping for big business. Mickey Martin, founder of the training center, said he wants to be the “hub of the industry in New England.”

The institute isn’t the only such school of its kind in Massachusetts. The New England Grass Roots Institute in Quincy caters to medical marijuana patients and offers classes on cannabis political history and Massachusetts medical marijuana law. The Cannabis Career Institute, a national company, periodically offers “marijuana business” training sessions in Boston and Rhode Island.

And this could be just the beginning.

In the wake of Massachusetts voters 2012 approval of medical marijuana sales, the state has become one of the fastest-growing cannabis business markets in the country, Martin said, and there is a dire need to educate workers in the dispensaries and auxiliary businesses.

When are the clinics going to open?

******************

Martin, who has consulted for groups that have successfully secured permits for medical cannabis dispensaries, said Massachusetts’ medical marijuana and decriminalization laws factored into his decision to found the Natick school. Martin predicts cannabis will become fully legal if supporters are able to get a referendum question on the ballot in 2016, and that his curriculum will evolve with the law. One possibility: teaching bartending-style classes if “cannabis bars” were to some day to open in the state.

I don't want that or those here. In fact, I no longer want medical marijuana in this state and am regretting my vote in favor.

Meanwhile, that heroin crisis seems to have subsided. Heim, huh?

Amanda Reiman, California policy manager for the Drug Policy Alliance, a reform group, said that as marijuana laws are changing, more cannabis training institutes are opening across the country. The schools help people who want to get involved in the industry become more professional, she said.

Reiman has given talks at the best-known cannabis institute — Oaksterdam University in California — and discovered that at least half of the students there were from outside states, many of which had not legalized medical marijuana. Her concern is whether attending one of these schools will make a difference in the job market.

“People think it’s somehow going to assure them a position in the industry, and it isn’t. . . . You really have to have a lot of experience in order to have a viable position.” she said.

The New England Grass Roots Institute opened in November 2012, and has a range of classes, such as the history and science of cannibis as well as patient caregiving and cooking with cannabis.

Michael Fitzgerald, cofounder of the institute, said their school is not occupational, but “patient centric,” and they tend to educate first-time medical marijuana users in their 40s and older.

The Northeastern Institute of Cannabis — which has no connection to Northeastern University — is planning to open Sept. 8. Martin said classroom furniture is expected to be delivered in the coming days, and they are putting the final artwork on textbooks.

NIC, as the school is known, has a business license to operate in Natick, and Martin said he is working to register with the state Division of Professional Licensure.

In many ways it is just like any other school. There will be a student lounge, monthly job fairs, and T-shirts with the school logo, which is of course, green. NIC has about 3,200 “likes” on its Facebook page.

The program costs $1,500 for 12 classes and is estimated to take a minimum of two to four weeks, but it could take longer depending on a student’s schedule. Students will study a range of topics including marijuana laws, cultivation, and ingestion methods, and be required to take an exam at the end of the program.

They will not have marijuana on site, but instead use videos or live chats with approved dispensaries.

Martin said NIC plans to share its office with a health and wellness clinic, consisting of physicians who will focus on alternative medicines, including medical marijuana.

Martin wants to “cater to grandma who just found out about marijuana” to help alleviate medical problems. He plans to offer a cheaper hour-long seminar, costing $50, for medical marijuana patients and caregivers who want to learn the basics of how to safely use the drug.

He also said the institute plans to host free courses for law enforcement officers on how to interact with medical marijuana patients and determine what a reasonable 60-day supply looks like. Approved patients in Massachusetts are allowed to use, possess, and grow up to a 60-day supply of the drug, which is defined as 10 ounces.

For Martin, working with law enforcement is crucial. In 2007, his marijuana edibles company in California was raided by federal agents, and Martin said he was on national news for owning a “pot candy factory.”

He said he was offered a plea deal, and spent a year in a halfway house, and another year wearing an ankle monitor.

It's all a MATTER of PRIORITY, isn't it?

“The risk is a lot lower these days than in the heyday, so we operate transparently and openly,” he said. “But that’s the one thing about the cannabis industry, is that there is definitely a risk going in.”

The Cannabis Career Institute has hosted about six day-long training classes in Boston within the past two years. Robert Calkin, president of the institute, said that anywhere from 20 to 100 people attend each seminar, which he described as “business 101 for cannabis.”

Martin hopes to eventually launch institutes in other regions.

“We’ve made a pretty hefty investment into what we believe will be a model for success nationwide,” Martin said.

I feel much more relaxed now.

"American nurse with Ebola to leave Liberia Tuesday" by Bill Barrow | Associated Press   August 04, 2014

ATLANTA — A second American medical missionary stricken with the deadly Ebola virus is expected to be flown Tuesday to the United States for treatment, following a colleague who was admitted during the weekend to Emory University Hospital’s infectious disease unit.

Top American public health officials continue to emphasize that treating Nancy Writebol and Dr. Kent Brantly in the United States poses no risks to the public as West Africa grapples with its worst recorded Ebola outbreak in history.

Can you give me a 100%, ironclad guarantee? No?

‘‘The plain truth is that we can stop Ebola,’’ said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, speaking Sunday on ABC’s ‘‘This Week. ‘‘We know how to control it: hospital infection control and stopping it at the source in Africa.’’

??????

Then WHY ARE YOU BRINGING IT HERE?!!!

And what a laugh that the "plain truth" is coming from this government. That time has long gone!

Brantly and Writebol served on the same medical mission team that was treating Ebola patients in Liberia. Also spreading in Guinea and Sierra Leone, the outbreak has infected more than 1,300 people in West Africa, killing at least 729 of them.

Liberian officials said a medical evacuation plane would transport Writebol to the United States early Tuesday. Information Minister Lewis Brown said the flight was expected to leave West Africa between 1 a.m. and 1.30 a.m. local time Tuesday.

Brantly arrived Saturday under the same protocol, flying from West Africa to Dobbins Air Reserve base outside Atlanta in a small plane equipped to contain infectious diseases. A small police escort followed his ambulance to the hospital, where he emerged dressed head to toe in white protective clothing and walked into the hospital.

Frieden, who appeared on several network news shows Sunday, also said Brantly appears to be improving.

Emory officials have not commented on Brantly’s condition. And no immediate details were provided by US health officials for Writebol’s planned treatment.

Frieden said he understands the public’s concerns about Ebola but added the best way to stop the disease is to intervene in West Africa, where the United States plans to send about 50 medical experts to help.

The CDC chief said old-fashioned practices are needed to stop the spread of Ebola in West Africa. That means finding the patients and their contacts, making sure they are treated, educating people, and doing infection control in hospitals.

The WHY DO THEY NEED to COME HERE?

A US mission official has said Brantly was treating victims of the outbreak at a hospital compound near Monrovia, Liberia, when he became infected.

They said Writebol served as a hygienist whose role included decontaminating those entering or leaving the Ebola treatment area at that hospital.

There is no cure for the Ebola virus, which causes hemorrhagic fever that kills at least 60 percent of the people it infects in Africa. It is spread by close contact with bodily fluids and blood, which means it is not spread as easily as airborne influenza or the common cold.

That is not what the WHO was saying a few days ago, as reported in my Globe, so WTF?!!

That also means any modern hospital using standard infection-control measures should be able to handle it. US doctors say the virus could be curtailed in Africa by a better functioning health care system.

Emory Hospital’s infectious-disease unit is one of about four in the country equipped to test and treat people exposed to dangerous viruses.

Patients are quarantined, sealed off from anyone who is not in protective gear. Lab tests are conducted inside the unit, ensuring that viruses do not leave the quarantined area.

Uh-huh.

"Obama to host African heads of state; Historic summit will focus on economic vitality" by Juliet Eilperin | Washington Post   August 04, 2014

Ah, the CIA's new$paper.

WASHINGTON — Nearly 50 African heads of state and government will gather this week for an unprecedented meeting in Washington that seeks to reframe the continent’s image, from one defined by conflict and disease to one ripe with economic promise.

The US-Africa Leaders Summit — which will mark the first time an American president will convene Africa’s leaders at one conference — faces major hurdles, including the ongoing distraction of conflicts elsewhere and domestic budget constraints.

Obama administration officials have deliberately played down their expectations, saying the event will not conclude with the sort of flashy financial commitments that Chinese leaders have announced at African summits in Beijing.

Translation: all he has for you are flowery words and no money! That money is to be used for military operations and drone strikes to keep control of your continent, with the occasional CIA-sponsored coup when needed.

Instead, the meeting will focus largely on the economic potential that Africa offers the United States — provided that the two can solve ongoing problems of electricity supply, agriculture, security threats, and democratic governance. It could allow President Obama to establish a broader legacy in Africa.

That's a hell of a spin to put on it!

‘‘We want to do business with those folks,’’ Obama said Friday at a news conference, noting that the United States is no longer providing aid only to countries on the continent to stave off malnutrition and the spread of HIV/AIDS. ‘‘And we think that we can create US jobs and send US exports to Africa. But we’ve got to be engaged, and so this gives us a chance to do that.’’

I'm so happy George W. is back in office.

WaPo not saying it, but this is about U.S. dominance of the continent and its resources while keeping China out!

Senator Christopher Coons, a Delaware Democrat, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on African affairs, noted that the United States still has strong ties based on years of development assistance.

‘‘I think history will show Africa is the continent of the greatest opportunity this century,’’ he said. ‘‘We have a moment that is passing us by, and we should build on these relationships.’’

It's the one continent still rich in resources and exploitable.

As the son of a Kenyan father, Obama faced high expectations from Africans and specialists in the region when he became president. His friends and foes say he disappointed many Africans in his first term when he focused largely on the struggling US economy and on passing a far-reaching health care law.

Not trying to be racist or anything, but back of line. Us antiwar people were here first, there are some environmentalists and privacy people in front of you.

The summit ‘‘is not a donor conference,’’ said Linda Thomas-Greenfield, assistant secretary of state for African affairs. It is closer to a networking affair that will bring together foreign dignitaries, American and African chief executives, policymakers, and activists for several days of business deals and panel discussions, as well as private dinners and at least one dance.

Oh, I'm glad the 1% of Africa is coming over here to rub elbows with the 1% over here while their continent suffers sever poverty, hunger, violence, health issues, etc, etc.

At least these guys won't be hurting. Party on, Garth!

There are about 100 side events, plus a three-day conference that includes one day devoted to business issues. Another day will cover more traditional development issues, including food security, health, women’s empowerment, and wildlife trafficking.

Uh-huh.

Although the Ebola virus outbreak in Africa is not on the agenda, Gayle Smith, the National Security Council’s development chief, said, ‘‘We will obviously adapt as needed and in consultation with our partners.’’

The presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone — two of three nations experiencing the outbreak — have canceled their plans to attend the conference.

Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, who will lead the business segment along with former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, is set to announce deals between the United States and Africa totaling $1 billion.

So there is money involved? Chump change considering the size of the place, but a Penny in the can.... now how much more does Israel need to replenish their arsenal and restock Iron Dome?

Representative Gregory Meeks of New York, a Democrat, who will cohost a reception at the US Capitol on Monday night and will hold a second networking event with more than 100 chief executives and senior US trade officials Wednesday, said his goal is ‘‘to have some real deals that are cut’’ before Wednesday is over.

Are we going to see some sort of ALPHABET TRADE AGREEMENT and further consolidation of globalism with some sort of regional economic structure coming out of this?

Sure looks like it.

Jennifer Cooke, who directs the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Africa program, said a big question facing the administration is to what extent the summit can deliver results. ‘‘There will certainly be some leaders who walk away and say, ‘What was that all about?’ ’’ she said.

I noticed the kidnapped Nigerian girls was not mentioned, forgotten because it was all a staged and scripted production and fantastic hoax.

At least Obama achieved further insertion of AmeriKan forces and drone spies with the crisis that has faded down the memory hole.

UPDATE:

"I am in no way trying to "whip up a frenzy" by my stance on the Ebola virus scare that has now gripped most of the major news outlets from around the planet.  I laid it out clearly during the week that there is definitely something funny going on when you have a so called "research" facility in the nation of Sierra Leone doing work on the Ebola virus.   Warning bells should also be going off everywhere when you see the facts that this so called "research" facility has been fully funded by the criminal that I call "Dr Evil", George Soros himself (just take a look at recent pictures of him and you can see a clear resemblance to the "Dr Evil" character from the Austin Powers movies),  and the so called Bill and Belinda Gates "foundation".   These people have never ever been for the betterment of mankind, but are definitely part of the group that is searching for methods of human extermination.  That alone has had warning bells go off in my own head and tells me that something is definitely amiss here….

This particular strain of Ebola that has been killing thousands of people across western Africa is extremely potent and much stronger than previous strains of the virus that was kept in check due to its poor inability to survive out of its jungle environment..  That alone points to a possible "mutation" of this strain or blatant manipulation of the virus itself…. I am leaning on the latter which again points towards criminal organizations and the US Government itself working on this virus as a means of weaponizing it and using it for a world wide pandemic.   People do need to understand that the agenda for population control as laid out in the 1974 UN protocols is very real and that the plan has always been in place for as much as 90% of the world's population to be wiped out…. This is the so called "new world order" agenda, and again it is very real!

Now that the virus has spread across Sierra Leone, Guinea, and even to Nigeria, we have the reports of several victims of this virus outbreak being flown to Atlanta Georgia in the United States for what is claimed to be "further research"….. I found very little news about this horrific action by the US Government and the World Health Organization and especially from the American public as a whole.  If this strain of Ebola does "escape" from Atlanta, it could definitely spread across the state of Georgian then across the entire United States.  Not only would there be panic across America, but the US Government would have its "pandemic" excuse to impose martial law across the United States… I honestly have been looking at all the excuses that have been used to transport a victim of this Ebola outbreak to the continental US and nothing that has been stated is rational enough to make sense.  It would have been better to keep these patients isolated and treatment to take place in west Africa.

We are also seeing a deluge of information and false information about "treatments" for Ebola… I have been reading the reports about the use of "colloidal silver" as a possible cure for Ebola, and I agree with those that are not sold on this as a 'cure'… Yes, I have been reading about "colloidal silver" and its applications for a wide variety of diseases, but there is nothing that shows that it would work on Ebola.  However, there is something intriguing that I have been reading over at Jim Stone's site (www.jimstonefreelance.com) that is more logical that the usage of "colloidal silver" and that is simple Vitamin C…. I decided to take the time and look again into Vitamin C and viruses as a whole, and what I found is exactly what Jim states in that Ebola and other viruses do strip the human body of Vitamin C and thus weaken the body's ability to fight off their attack…  I have always been a proponent of the use of both Vitamin C and Vitamin D instead of "vaccines" or other chemicals for fighting diseases, as shown in many of my previous articles…. Therefore when it comes to Ebola and other related diseases, I would say to everyone to stockpile Vitamin C and to up their daily doses if a fear of an outbreak does occur.

The bottom line from this Ebola fear is that at the moment it is exactly that….Fear…. Yes, there have been reports of its spread into other nations, but as Jon Rappoport has stated in one of my previous articles, there is a strong possibility that the criminals in our own governments are using the psychological effect of the fear of this outbreak turning into a pandemic to try to impose their much needed martial law to take away both the rights of the people as well as their weapons as defense against the criminals running our governments.    They have indeed done this before with the "swine flu" outbreak fear of a few years back, and it is wait and see when it comes to this latest "Ebola" pandemic fear.

OK, enough of the "Ebola outbreak" fear....
