Slow Saturday Special: Volleyball Coach Spiked By Sexual Assault

"Ex-Assabet Valley coach accused of inappropriate touching" by John R. Ellement | Globe staff   August 15, 2014

The former varsity volleyball coach at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough has been indicted on charges of indecent assault and battery in allegedly touching girls on his team inappropriately in 2008 and 2009, officials said.

Jeremiah Encarnacion, 30, of Marlborough, pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault and battery and three counts of accosting a member of the opposite sex at his recent arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court, said Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan’s office.

In a statement, Ryan’s office said Encarnacion was released on personal recognizance, required to wear a GPS monitoring device, and ordered not work or volunteer to work with children under the age of 16.

“We allege this defendant inappropriately touched several of his players and made provocative comments to others,” Ryan said in the statement. “No adult should engage in this alleged behavior, let alone a coach who is supposed to be guiding and leading young people by his example.”

While coaching the girls’ volleyball team, prosecutors allege, Encarnacion made “lewd comments” to players verbally and in text messages and did so while the team was on the school grounds and traveling on the bus to away games.
