Suspect in custody after 2 random shootings in Duxbury

A 25-year-old Maine man accused of randomly shooting two people in Duxbury and firing shots at another person on Sunday afternoon was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation during his arraignment Monday in Plymouth District Court.

Lucas McPherson of Mapleton, Maine, was diagnosed with schizophrenia, had been off his medication for at least two weeks, and had also threatened his parents with a shotgun earlier this month, though they declined to prosecute him, according to a Duxbury police report.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was ordered to remain in custody while he undergoes a mental health evaluation at a state facility over the next three weeks, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office.

McPherson is facing multiple charges for allegedly shooting and wounding two men and for allegedly opening fire on a woman who drove past him in her car, an attack that damaged the vehicle but left her uninjured....
