AmeriKa's War on the Homeless

The fact is, there should BE NO HOMELESS in the United States!

We have TRILLIONS upon TRILLIONS for WARS and BANKS, yet we can not house all our people?

What did Jesus say about clothing and shelter?

“Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter 'when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousnessa will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.” --Isaiah 58:7-8 (N.I.V.)

"Suit says artsy Calif. coastal enclave harasses homeless; Targets ban on street sleeping" by Gillian Flaccus, Associated Press | December 25, 2008

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. - Civil rights attorneys have filed a federal lawsuit against this exclusive coastal community and accused its leadership of engaging in a campaign of harassment against the disabled homeless.

See: Who Remembers Timothy Finch?

The American Civil Liberties Union alleged in its lawsuit that a city ban on sleeping on the street is unconstitutional, particularly because there are no yearround city-sponsored shelters. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in US District Court in Santa Ana.

"There are even more art galleries than homeless residents," said Mark Rosenbaum, ACLU's legal director for Southern California. "Yet city leaders have chosen to attempt to eliminate the homeless, rather than eliminate homelessness."

The lawsuit seeks a change in policy, but no money for the homeless, Rosenbaum said. It deals with mentally and physically disabled homeless - terms that define a majority of the city's homeless population, Rosenbaum said.

I wonder how many are vets.

Assistant City Manager John Pietig objected to the characterization of the city as an exclusive, oceanfront hamlet bent on driving out the fewer than 100 chronically homeless people. "We're a very tolerant community," he said. "We have one of the most aggressive programs in the state of California to address homeless issues."

The City Council recently considered revising the 1950s ordinance that bans street sleeping, but postponed the matter for further review, Pietig said. He said there was no policy to harass homeless people sleeping outdoors, but officers occasionally ticket people camping illegally in wooded areas because of the wildfire danger from campfires.

The community of about 25,000, nestled on bluffs above coves and tide pools, is famous for its art galleries and festivals, trendy boutiques and luxury hilltop homes with Pacific vistas. Alan Olson, 39, said he'd been homeless for two years and was frequently harassed by police. He's received two tickets for illegal camping in an area on the outskirts of town, he said, and faces a fine of up to $180 at his court date next month.

"I want to see everything change," he said. "Maybe now they can treat homeless . . . better instead of harassing 'em."

How about GETTING THEM SOME SHELTER? Use the TARP if you have to!

Hey, there is a pun there somewhere!

"On yule eve, tending to the city's homeless" by Peter Schworm, Globe Staff | December 25, 2008

.... Lyndia Downie, president of the Pine Street Inn, said there are approximately 7,000 homeless people statewide, most of whom live in Boston.

There are a couple in my area; I see them every day. Sometimes I give them money. Someday soon, I could be one.

The recent cold spell has filled Boston shelters to capacity. On Sunday, when the temperature dipped well below freezing, the shelter took in 70 extra people, setting up makeshift beds laid out side by side.

Again, the global-warming lies kill, folks!

Recent government budget cuts have slightly reduced the number of beds in shelters citywide, Downie said. But a donation from the Boston Foundation has helped to offset the lost funding, she said.

Madoff!!!

Yet Pine Street has also seen more people forced out of their homes by the mortgage crisis, she said. Many were tenants who were paying their rent and had no idea their landlord's home faced foreclosure. "Some people are caught completely off guard," Downie said....

Yup, but GOVERNMENT CAN'T BAIL THEM OUT!!!

A small army of volunteers pitched in yesterday, carrying donated groceries, stirring vats of noodles and fruit salad, scooping generous portions of stew into bowls.

What, they couldn't get a table at the U.N.?

"
Every table was set with a single fresh rose (from the rose gardens outside, I was told) and a full complement of three forks, two knives, and two spoons in silver plate..... The buffet tables could have graced a high-end ocean liner. I watched a gentleman in colorful African garb pile his plate with slices of roast sirloin and potatoes mashed with feta cheese. A post-retirement-age couple from the East Side scarfed up most of the egg rolls, though more came out quickly....

I made for the roast leg of lamb with rosemary sauce after I filled my salad plate with chilled asparagus and slices of a duck and pork terrine.... fresh tomato soup and bowls of pasta primavera.... The dessert buffet table practically groaned under a spread of apple and pumpkin pies, cheesecakes, tarts, half a dozen cheeses, sliced fruits, bowls of berries, and, off to one side, three urns of ice cream"

And that was just for LUNCH!

Pine Street officials said they deeply appreciated the outpouring of help, but wish that it were more consistent and that awareness of the plight of the poor was more than a holiday concern....

You mean, like Israel, the war-profiteers, and the bankers get their needs attended right away?

All the people gave the shelter a festive air, and some residents said they were looking forward to spending the holiday with their families.

They are incredible! Yup, homelessness is ONE BIG PARTY!

But others said they planned to spend Christmas on the streets and were more interested in the temperature than the date....
