Capping Off the Globe's Gulf Gusher Coverage

I have to tell you, readers, I don't really care to read or watch the concealing American media on this issue anymore. That's why it has taken a week to post more on it.

I have been going HERE to find out what the MSM won't tell you and because he seems to pare out some of the more sensationalist set of stories swirling around this issue. Or you can see what I have posted in the file I created for the crisis.

What you find is that the BLOGS are LEADING the MSM on this issue as THEY are RESPONDING to us after WEEKS have passed. It's discouraging and sad; however, it is just one more item and issue over which they are not to be believed.

"BP to replace oil cap with a tighter version; Hopes device will contain the entire leak" by Tom Breen, Associated Press | July 10, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — The BP oil leak could be contained as early as Monday if a new, tighter cap can be fitted over the blown-out well, the government official in charge of the crisis said yesterday in some of the most encouraging news to come out of the Gulf of Mexico in the 2 1/2 months since the disaster struck....

During the installation, however, the gusher will get worse. Once the old cap is removed, oil will pour into the waters unhindered for about 48 hours while the new one is put in place and the oil is channeled to surface ships....

Two relief wells are being drilled deep below the seafloor to intercept the ruptured well and seal it permanently with mud and cement, a job that may not be completed until mid-August.

May not work, either.

The cap in use was installed June 4 to capture oil gushing from the bottom of sea, but because it had to be fitted over a jagged cut in the well pipe, it allows some crude to escape into the gulf. The new cap — dubbed “Top Hat Number 10’’ — is designed to fit more snugly and help BP catch all the oil.

Yeah, sure, whatever, MSM.

BP also worked yesterday to hook up another containment ship, called the Helix Producer, to a different part of the leaking well....

Yeah, there is MORE than ONE LEAK!

The government estimates 1.5 million to 2.5 million gallons of oil a day are spewing from the well, and the existing cap is collecting about 1 million gallons of that.

Which means more is spewing and less is being collected.

With the new cap and the new containment vessel, the system will be capable of capturing 2.5 million to 3.4 million gallons — essentially all the leaking oil, officials said.

The plan had originally been to hook up the Helix Producer and install the new cap separately, but the favorable weather convinced officials the time was right for both operations....

In a response to retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen’s request for detailed plans about the new cap, the Helix Producer, and the relief wells, BP managing director Bob Dudley confirmed that the leak could be contained by Monday. But he included plans for another scenario, which includes possible problems and missteps for the installation of the cap that would push the work back until Thursday.

Same as the old slime.

The past 80 days have seen the failure of one technique after another to stop the leak, from a huge containment box to a “top kill’’ and a “junk shot.’’ The latest approach is not a sure thing either, warned Ed Overton, a Louisiana State University environmental sciences professor....

Overton said putting on the new cap carries risks: “Is replacing the cap going to do more damage than leaving it in place, or are you going to cause problems that you can’t take care of?’’

At least your government and MSM are not lying to you about it, America.

Containing the leak will not end the crisis that began when the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform exploded April 20, killing 11 workers. The relief wells are still being drilled, and a monumental cleanup and restoration project lies ahead.

And they haven't even rebuilt from Katrina yet.

"I hate to be such a cynic, but especially after Saddam's "nooks" I smell a huge rat here....

The live cams, with the cap supposedly removed today, do not seem to show anywhere near as much oil coming out of the pipe. How can we know we are in fact looking at the actual well head and not a staged recreation for propaganda purposes, especially with famed film maker James Cameron having been on scene for many weeks now.

Yes, this idea is a little out there, but decoys for military purposes are big business in the US; it is hardly a novelty to the government point of view. Ask yourself if BP would fake a well capping to contain the bad publicity and save their stock price. Ask yourself if Obama would fake a well capping to avoid having the disaster as an issue come November?

Second issue. We know from the failure of the first Top Kill procedure, as well as from the seepage coming from the ocean floor around the well head, that there has been a subsurface blowout about 1000 feet down where a piece of safety gear was damaged by the drilling process. BP calls it a malfunctioning disk.

So, there are at least two vents in the pipe system, one at the well head and another 1000 feet down. Capping the well head makes absolutely no sense at all other than a public relations stunt because the oil and methane will continue to escape from the subsurface blowout lower down. Indeed, the pressure and flow of the leakage into the formation will increase with the capping of the well head, hastening the moment then the subsurface blowout breaches the ocean floor and sends the accumulated oil and gas from the last 80 days to the surface in a single giant blowout.

If this is the real well head and not a fake created for public relations purposes, this is a dangerous and reckless thing to do for the sake of an election-saving headline.

"Oil flows freely as BP removes cap; New dome could be operational within the week" by Tom Breen, Associated Press | July 11, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — Robotic submarines removed the cap from the gushing well in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday, beginning a period of at least two days when oil will flow freely into the sea.

It’s the first step in placing a tighter dome that is supposed to funnel more oil to collection ships on the surface a mile above. If all goes according to plan, the tandem of the tighter cap and the surface ships could keep all the oil from polluting the fragile gulf as soon as tomorrow....

Of course, NOTHING HAS YET!

"BP cautiously optimistic about new, tighter seal; Set to test cap that may help contain leak" by Tom Breen, Associated Press | July 12, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — BP said yesterday that it is making progress on what could prove its most effective effort yet to contain the gulf oil leak, but cautioned that the verdict on its effectiveness could be several days away....

“We’re pleased with our progress,’’ said BP senior vice president Kent Wells, who then hastened to add the operation was still expected to last up to six more days.

Asked during a conference call if the new cap and collection efforts would end the spilling of oil into the gulf, Wells said only that BP will capture all the oil “at some point.’’

****************

The well has been gushing largely unchecked since an old, leaky cap was removed from the wellhead Saturday to make way for the new one....

Wary gulf residents reserved judgment about BP’s latest effort and said the damage already done to the environment, fishing, and tourism will haunt the region for a long time either way....

Yup, the ghosts of dead life in the dead zone.

The hurricane season, which lasts through November, could interfere.

I was told it could
help.

There are no storms forecast now, but if one blows through, the ships collecting the oil may have to leave and crude would spew again into the water until the vessels returned.

Looks like they already had one.

If the new cap is a complete success in stopping the leak, that will be a first....

The new, tighter cap is not intended to be the permanent fix to the problem. Relief wells are being dug for the permanent fix, a “bottom kill’’ in which heavy drilling mud and cement are pumped in from below the broken wellhead.

BP and the government already know the relief wells have failed, don't they?

Otherwise, they wouldn't have worried about the cap.

"BP testing effectiveness of new cap on damaged well; Device could stop 3-month-old spill" by Tom Breen, Associated Press | July 13, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — Deep-sea robots swarming around BP’s ruptured oil well attached a tighter-fitting cap yesterday that could finally stop crude from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico nearly three months into the crisis.

Live video of the leak site showed....

I no longer believe what I see on my television screen. That is why it stays off the news channels.

BP’s confidence in the cap is growing, chief operating officer Doug Suttles said at a news briefing yesterday....

Engineers are spraying a chemical that acts as an antifreeze, concerned that if the crystals start forming they will compound and clog the piping.

MORE POISONS and MORE PROBLEMS!!

They do not want the flow of oil to stop instantaneously, said Don Van Nieuwenhuise, director of Professional Geosciences Programs at the University of Houston. Shutting the oil off too quickly could cause another explosion, he said.

Just as the WtFU guy said.

“Rather than like a train running into a brick wall, it’ll be more like putting the brakes on slowly,’’ he said. “That’s what they’re aiming for. You can keep the brakes on, and everyone arrives alive, or you hit the wall and have big problems.’’

Yeah!

"Delay in test of new cap leaves oil flowing unchecked; More analysis, time are needed, officials conclude" by Tom Breen and Harry R. Weber, Associated Press | July 14, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — A pivotal moment in the gulf oil crisis hit an unexpected snag yesterday evening when officials announced they needed more time before they could begin choking off the geyser of crude at the bottom of the sea....

Not unexpected here.

See why I am sick of reading this s***?

After the analysis is completed, engineers can finally begin to shut the openings in the 75-ton metal stack of pipes and valves gradually, one at a time, while watching pressure gauges to see if the cap holds or any new leaks erupted. The operation could last anywhere from six to 48 hours....

The cap is just a stopgap measure. To end the leak for good, the well needs to be plugged at the source....

Earlier yesterday in Washington, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the effort to put the containment cap into operation “represents the best news that we’ve had in the preceding 85 days.’’

“We are approaching what we hope is the next phase in the gulf — understanding that that next phase is likely to take many years,’’ he added....

That means GETTING IT OFF the TV and NEWS PAGES!

How odd that this paragraph took the cut for the web "update":

Along the Gulf Coast, where the spill has heavily damaged the region's vital tourism and fishing industries, people anxiously awaited the outcome.

Yeah, you are literally forgotten by the MSM, folks.
