"Ugandans protest maternal-death suit delay" July 08, 2011|Associated Press

KAMPALA, Uganda - Hundreds of women marched yesterday in Uganda’s capital to protest the East African nation’s high rate of maternal mortality and a delayed lawsuit stemming from two such deaths.

Some 435 out of 100,000 Ugandan women die in childbirth, according to the country’s health ministry.

By comparison, 24 women die for every 100,000 live births in the United States and other rich, industrialized countries, according to United Nations figures.

Families of two women who died in childbirth have sued, saying the expectant mothers were left unattended at hospitals after they failed to pay large enough bribes.

They used to call it matricide.

Government hospitals are supposed to provide free care.

Maybe we don't need that single-payer system after all given $ome of the doctor$ around here.
