Occupation Iraq: Iran All In

Which will keep AmeriKa from getting all out?

"US suspects Iran behind increase in troop deaths in Iraq; Military cites use of more powerful, sophisticated arms" July 01, 2011|By Ed O’Keefe and Tim Craig, Washington Post

BAGHDAD - American troop deaths in Iraq reached a two-year high in June, and US military officials are blaming Iran for the spike in violence.

Three US soldiers were killed Wednesday in a rocket attack at a US base near Iran, the officials said, bringing the month’s death toll to 15 and marking the bloodiest month since 15 military personnel died here in June 2009, according to iCasualties.org, a website that tracks US military deaths. Fourteen of the deaths were combat-related, the highest since 23 soldiers and Marines were killed in action in June 2008, the site said.

After WE WERE TOLD COMBAT was OVER!

For months, US commanders have said they feared that an uptick in violence would accompany the planned withdrawal of most troops by the end of the year. Military officials in Baghdad and at the Pentagon said the mounting death toll can now be directly attributed to the growing sophistication of the weapons that insurgents and Iranian-backed militia groups are using in their attacks.

Those weapons include powerful rockets, armor-piercing grenades, and jamming-resistant roadside bombs, military officials say.

Officials caution that they do not have evidence that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran or his government is ordering Shi’ite militias to strike US forces in Iraq.

But....

The new dangers facing troops mark another point in their eight-year engagement in Iraq, underscoring the country’s volatile security situation and the ongoing debate both here and in Washington about whether any American troops should remain in the country past the end of the year.

During much of the insurgency that followed the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, American commanders blamed Sunni-dominated terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda in Iraq for many of the attacks.

But as the US military adjusted tactics, largely withdrew from Iraqi cities, and boosted technology to limit exposure to roadside bombs and suicide tactics, officials say, it has become far harder for loosely organized Sunni militias to strike out against the roughly 46,000 US troops remaining in Iraq.

Now, Buchanan said, the primary threat to the Americans comes from three Shi’ite militia groups operating in Iraq: the Promised Day Brigade, Ahl al-Haq, and Kataib Hezbollah. All appear to have been supplied with the weapons and training needed to penetrate US defenses.

Pffft!

Yeah, Iran wants us to stay. I'm sorry for my lack of enthusiasm these days, readers; however, I'm sick of s***-shoveled lies after five years of blogging.

In early June, a sophisticated rocket slammed into a joint Iraqi-US military base in eastern Baghdad, killing six American soldiers in the deadliest single attack on forces here in more than two years.

In addition, roadside bombs that were able to resist jamming devices killed four US troops in June.

Last week, an American contractor for the US Agency for International Development was killed when suspected Shi’ite militants attached a bomb to a car he was riding in near a Baghdad university.

CIA.

On Sunday, two US troops were killed when an apparent armor-piercing grenade was lobbed at their vehicle.

Yup, ALL OF A SUDDEN, just as we are allegedly on our way out the security starts collapsing.

Although the US military did not release specifics of Wednesday’s attack pending notification of next of kin, officials familiar with the assault said the rocket was so powerful that it also wounded more than a dozen soldiers, several critically.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for that attack.

The HALLMARK of a FALSE FLAG OPERATION by INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES!

However, Kataib Hezbollah asserted in June that it fired on Camp Loyalty, which Iraqis call Baladiyat base, in an attack that killed six US soldiers in eastern Baghdad.

Oh, I stand corrected.

"Iraq cracks down on Shi’ite militants" July 02, 2011|New York Times

BAGHDAD - Against a backdrop of rising violence against American soldiers, Iraqi security forces have unleashed a sweeping crackdown on Iranian-backed Shi’ite militants responsible for most of the lethal attacks, American and Iraqi officials said.

The operation has been welcomed by the US military, which announced the deaths of three Americans in southern Iraq on Thursday, bringing the total of combat-related deaths in June to 14 - the bloodiest month in three years.

Gee, that's weird. I was told 15 yesterday.

As attacks on soldiers increased this spring, US commanders grew concerned that the Shi’ite government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki would be unwilling to act against the militias. Many of the militant groups have ties to the radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, whose party is a critical pillar of Maliki’s governing coalition.

Those fears have begun to be allayed as a force of about 2,000 Iraqi soldiers and police undertake an offensive in the southern province of Maysan, one of the largest mobilizations by the government since it took over security responsibilities.

Security forces have increased activities across Iraq, arresting militants, conducting patrols, and searching for weapons caches, said the US military’s top spokesman in Iraq, General Jeffrey S. Buchanan.

Since the sweep began, the number of rocket and mortar attacks on American military bases has fallen, although attacks on convoys continue unabated, Buchanan said.

"Twin bombings kill dozens outside Baghdad; Second attack comes during aid response" by Tim Arango and Yasir Ghazi, New York Times / July 6, 2011

BAGHDAD - At a nearby hospital in the Baghdad neighborhood of Kadhimiya, a macabre scene unfolded. Women cried and shouted over the bodies of their husbands and sons, and the wounded, bloody and covered in dust, sought care. A list of the dead and wounded was affixed to a wall; the youngest victim was 3 years old....

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but it was in the same style as strikes by Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia....

Which "Al-CIA-Duh" would that be again?

“Our district is mixed with Shi’ites and Sunnis and we haven’t witnessed any sectarian problems,’’ said Ali Shakir, 40, a member of the local council who was in the area when the attack occurred but who was uninjured.

Large-scale attacks in the capital that take aim at civilians had abated compared with previous years, but yesterday’s bombings came less than two weeks after three explosions tore through a public market, killing at least 21 people.

As Sunni insurgent groups, such as Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, continue attacks against the government and civilians, Shi’ite militant groups - including the Promised Day Brigade, which is linked to the anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr - have stepped up attacks against US troops....

And because the lying, agenda-pushing, war-promoting, says so it must be true.

"As Iraq-Iran ties expand, so do worries of Arab allies, US" by July 07, 2011|By Lara Jakes, Associated Press

BAGHDAD - Iraq’s prime minister told a senior Iranian envoy yesterday that their economic bonds can expand as Baghdad signaled deepening ties with its anti-American neighbor despite worries from Washington and Arab allies.

The growing ties between Baghdad’s Shi’ite-led government and Shi’ite powerhouse Iran highlight one of the region’s major political shifts after the US-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein, whose Sunni-dominated regime fought an eight-year war with Iran in the 1980s.

So the winner of the US invasion has been... Iran?

How come everything the neo-con globe-kickers do turns to shit?

US-allied Arab states, particularly Saudi Arabia and its Gulf neighbors, worry about expanding Iranian influence as Washington draws down forces in Iraq.

Related: 2002 Iraqi Intel Reported Wahhabis Are of Jewish Origin

All of a sudden Saudi Arabia's conduct makes a whole lot of sense.

Iran is also being accused of encouraging opposition uprisings in Bahrain and other Gulf states.

The United States has deep concerns over Iran’s links to Shi’ite militias and political groups in Iraq, where security is still shaky less than six months before the US deadline to pull out all military forces. It is a main reason why the Obama administration is offering to keep between 8,500 and 10,000 troops in Iraq next year if Baghdad requests a continued US military presence, American officials say.

And as I KEEP POINTING OUT, cui bono?

Why would IRAN of all people attack now?

It's ALL CRAP, folks!

That is what I am READING EVERY DAY, and why I am SO AGITATED!!

Iraq’s prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, and Iran’s first vice president, Mohammed Reza Rahimi, signed six agreements to bolster shared economic, health, technology, and culture interests.

Did you know they VACATION in each others nation?

Rahimi was in Baghdad on the first of a three-day visit to meet with business leaders and, in part, press Iraq to invest in Iran’s health and energy markets.

“We have forgotten all the pains of the past as we are now enjoying good and growing relations between the two friendly countries… . We have come to push the relations to their highest level,’’ Rahimi told TV reporters who were hand-picked to cover the signing ceremony in Baghdad.

And WHO would want to RUIN THAT?

Maliki kept his job last year only with the political help of an Iranian-backed Shi’ite group. Iraq depends on Iran for about 10 percent of its daily electric power - one of Baghdad’s most tenuous resources. Iraq’s searing summer months, when air conditioning outages push public tempers to the boiling point, can spark antigovernment riots and political unrest.

US officials say Iran clearly wants the American military to leave Iraq and point to the recent increase in attacks against US soldiers. Fifteen US troops died in Iraq in June, the deadliest month for the military here in two years. Nearly all were killed by Shi’ite militias that are supplied and trained by Iran.

Does THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU, readers?

Please tell me the AmeriKan media doe not think we are THAT F***ING STOO-PID!!!

"5 die, dozens hurt in separate blasts

BAGHDAD - Two separate blasts killed five people and wounded nearly three dozen yesterday, Iraqi officials said. The first bomb, hidden in an empty rickshaw, blew up near Shi’ite pilgrims headed to the holy city of Karbala, killing two people and wounding 26, policemen said. In Baghdad, a bomb in a minibus parked outside a club killed three passersby and wounded at least nine, according to police. (AP)."

Must have been Shi'ite militants trained by Iran.
