You Can't Fool a Yemeni

That's why they are in the streets:

"New Yemeni council set to press Saleh" August 18, 2011|Associated Press

SANA, Yemen - Yemeni opposition groups and protest leaders formed a national council yesterday to step up pressure on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to relinquish power.

Mass protests calling on Saleh to step down have been roiling Yemen for months. In June, Saleh was badly wounded in an attack at his palace....

"36 suspected militants killed in Yemen" Associated Press / August 25, 2011

SANA, Yemen - Airstrikes killed 36 suspected Al Qaeda militants in southern Yemen yesterday, military and medical officials said, as the government pressed on with a campaign to drive out fighters who have overrun several towns.

Islamic militants - some suspected of links to Yemen’s Al Qaeda branch - seized the towns starting in late May, taking advantage of the political turmoil unleashed by protests against Yemen’s longtime ruler.

Nearly three months of attacks by warplanes and ground forces have failed to dislodge them.

The Gods must be with them, 'eh?

The United States fears that Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula will gain a freer hand in Yemen to train and plot attacks against the West as Yemen’s embattled government focuses on putting down the protest movement that began calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s ouster in February. Saleh had been cooperating with the United States in battling the Al Qaeda offshoot....

"Al Qaeda reeling, US terror chief says; Killing of latest 2d in command boosts confidence" September 02, 2011|By Kimberly Dozier, Associated Press

WASHINGTON -White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan said the uprising in Yemen had kept Yemeni forces engaged in a fight for political survival and had slowed down the fight against arguably the most dangerous bin Laden affiliate, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. That group has worked with the rebel tribes to grab large swaths of territory in the south.

The unrest has forced the United States to draw down the hundred-plus military and intelligence personnel it had working with Yemeni counterterrorism forces. Those Yemeni forces, led by ailing Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s sons, have been reluctant to leave the capital unguarded, even when a brigade of conventional Yemeni troops became trapped by Al Qaeda in the Abyan region.

US forces had to air-drop food and water to the embattled unit, which was threatening to surrender. Brennan said the United States has since persuaded the Yemenis to send enough local troops their way to free them, and he has urged the country’s vice president to send more troops into the fight.

Translation: We are LOSING YET ANOTHER WAR, dear Americans.

And if you roll them all into a WWIII scenario that is already underway (as will and is being recorded by history) is analogous to the Nazi war machine circa the summer of 1942. Attacking Iran will be our Russia, and this whole thing may be over a lot quicker than you or I think as you read and I type.

Can't fool some Americans, either.
