"Philippine rebels raid mining firms" by Associated Press / October 4, 2011
MANILA - About 200 heavily armed communist rebels stormed three mining companies in a weakly secured southern Philippine region yesterday, burning heavy equipment, disarming guards, and briefly holding several people in their biggest attack this year, officials said.
Not Muslim terrorists?
The New People’s Army guerrillas then ambushed a convoy led by a police general that was responding to the attack in remote Claver township in Surigao del Norte province, but the police officers fought back without any casualties, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said....
“It was a show of force,’’ Robredo said, adding that the rebels took advantage of the limited presence of army and police personnel in the remote region.
Rebel spokesman Jorge Madlos said the guerrillas had written letters and sought meetings with the officials of the mining companies to tell them to stop practices that they deemed destructive to the environment. They also accused the firms of exploiting workers.
Madlos said the companies ignored the rebels, who then decided to launch the attacks.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
Seeing as communists are coming back(?) as people are protesting the corporations I thought it was a relevant quote.
