Slow Saturday Special: Bin Laden's Son-in-Law Speaks

Sorry, folks, I am no longer listening to propaganda meant to reinforce conventional myths and lies.

"Officials: Bin Laden spokesman caught in Jordan" By LARA JAKES, The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Osama bin Laden’s spokesman and son-in-law has been captured by the United States, officials said Thursday, in what a senior congressman called a “very significant victory” in the fight against al-Qaida.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith is expected to be in U.S. federal court in New York on Friday in an initial hearing to face terror charges, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information. The case marks a legal victory for the Obama administration, which has long sought to charge senior al-Qaida suspects in American federal courts instead of military tribunals at the detention center at Guantanamo Bay.

Rep. Peter King, the former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, credited the CIA and FBI with catching al-Qaida propagandist Abu Ghaith in Jordan within the last week....

Well, they would have known where he was, wouldn't they?

A Jordanian security official confirmed that Abu Ghaith was handed over last week to U.S. law enforcement officials under both nations’ extradition treaty. He declined to disclose other details and spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

“Definitely, one by one, we are getting the top echelons of al-Qaida,” said King, R-N.Y. “I give the (Obama) administration credit for this: it’s steady and it’s unrelenting and it’s very successful.”

Abu Ghaith became an international name in late 2001 when he appeared on pan-Arab satellite television urging Muslims everywhere to fight the United States and warning of more attacks similar to those of Sept. 11. In one video, he was sitting with bin Laden in front of a rock face in Afghanistan....

Was that the fake confession that wasn't even bin Laden?

He is identified as a major al-Qaida core official by the New America Foundation think tank in Washington. King said Abu Ghaith was involved in the planning in the 9/11 attacks against the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Tom Lynch, a research fellow at the National Defense University in Washington, described Abu Ghaith as one of a small handful of senior al-Qaida leaders “capable of getting the old band back together. His capture and extradition not only allows the U.S. to hold — and perhaps try — a reputed al-Qaida core survivor, further tarnishing the AQ core brand, but it also points to the dangers for those few remaining al-Qaida core refugees,” Lynch said....

And this way they can keep shoving that lie in our faces.

Attorney Michael Rosensaft, who was a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan until last fall and is now in private practice. He predicted the case will last months, if not years, and that some of the evidence against Abu Ghaith will be a challenge for prosecutors to bring to court if it is classified.

Abu Ghaith’s trial will mark one of the first prosecutions of senior al-Qaida leaders on U.S. soil. Charging foreign terror suspects in American federal courts was a top pledge by President Barack Obama shortly after he took office in 2009 — aimed, in part, to close Guantanamo Bay.

Since 9/11, 67 foreign terror suspects have been convicted in U.S. federal courts, according to watchdog group Human Rights First, which obtained the data from the Justice Department through a Freedom of Information Act request.

By comparison, of the thousands of detainees who were swept up shortly after the terror attacks and held at Guantanamo Bay, only seven were convicted by military tribunals held at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba, the watchdog group said. The vast majority have been sent back overseas, either for rehabilitation or continued detention and prosecution.

Where print ended it.  Kind of leaves you in a gray area, doesn't it?

“They know this is where this case belongs,” Raha Wala, Human Rights First’s national security attorney, said in a statement, praising the move to prosecute Abu Ghaith in New York. “That decision underscores the confidence Americans should have in our tried-and-true system of justice and its ability to handle these complex cases.”

I have no confidence in a system that railroads patsy plotters framed by the government and absolves killer police.

Republicans in Congress have staunchly opposed bringing terror suspects to the United States and fought the White House to keep Guantanamo open. In a statement Thursday that did not mention Abu Ghaith, House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers said that al-Qaida suspects should not be prosecuted in federal courts because “we should treat enemy combatants like the enemy.”

And one month later, Boston happened.

The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that Abu Ghaith was caught while passing through Jordan, on his way to Kuwait, shortly after leaving Turkey.

Look at those destinations. He is an AMERIKAN INTELLIGENCE ASSET who was ORDERED to GO!

The newspaper said that Abu Ghaith was taken into custody more than a month ago at a luxury hotel in in Ankara, the Turkish capital. But Turkish officials decided he had not committed any crime in Turkey and released him, the newspaper reported.

Was he tortured?

In Ankara, Turkish officials refused to confirm Abu Ghaith’s deportation or his capture in Jordan to The Associated Press. In Amman, the Jordanian capital, a security official said he had no information on the CIA arrest in Jordan.

U.S. intelligence officials in Washington and New York refused to comment on the case.

They don't have to.

"Bin Laden spokesman caught; Suspect expected to face charges in NYC court" by Mark Mazzetti and William K. Rashbaum  |  New York Times, March 08, 2013

WASHINGTON — A son-in-law of Osama bin Laden who once served as his spokesman will appear in a New York courtroom Friday to face terrorism charges that could bring life imprisonment.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, who is married to one of bin Laden’s daughters, Fatima, was arrested weeks ago in Turkey. He will be charged with conspiracy to kill Americans, according to an indictment released Thursday. One law enforcement official said that Abu Ghaith, 47, was the most senior Al Qaeda figure to face criminal trial in New York since America’s war against the terrorist network began.

Justice Department officials described him as a propagandist who they believe has not had an operational role in Al Qaeda for years and did not participate in the attacks Sept. 11, 2001, or any plots against the United States.

That's weird, because Peter King told us he was.

Details about his arrest were sketchy Thursday, but officials said he was originally detained last month while staying in a hotel in Ankara, Turkey, after crossing the border from Iran, where he had been living for about a decade.

Oh, no, not that crap again.

According to one person in Washington briefed on the matter, Turkish officials rebuffed demands by the Obama administration to directly hand him over to the United States, choosing rather to deport him to Kuwait. On a stopover in Amman, Jordan, US officials took him into custody and flew him to New York.

Jordan’s spy service, the General Intelligence Directorate, is one of the Central Intelligence Agency’s closest partners in the Middle East.

Abu Ghaith was a Muslim preacher and teacher in Kuwait who spoke out against Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in the early 1990s. In 2000, he went to Afghanistan, where he met bin Laden and eventually married one of his daughters.

He attracted wide attention in the days after the Sept. 11 attacks by making statements defending the attacks, some of them carried on Al-Jazeera. According to an indictment unsealed Thursday, Abu Ghaith appeared with bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahri, who was then his deputy, and warned the United States and its allies that a ‘‘great army is gathering against you’’ and called upon ‘‘the nation of Islam’’ to fight ‘‘Jews, the Christians, and the Americans.’’

All these guys end up being on intelligence agency payrolls. That's why we call it "Al-CIA-Duh."

Btw, who is "Al-CIA-Duh?" What do you mean they were made up, and created for the courtroom!?

That explains everything.

He also urged people at a guest house in Kandahar, Afghanistan, to swear allegiance to bin Laden and on the night of the World Trade Center attack, bin Laden summoned him and asked for his help and he agreed to provide it, according to the indictment.

The arrest of Abu Ghaith was the rare occasion in which an Al Qaeda operative was detained overseas rather than slain. The Obama administration has expanded the use of targeted killing operations in Pakistan and Yemen, saying they are justified when there is no chance of capture.

And when you don't want to sully the long-gone image of America with indefinitely detained prisoners who are all innocent. So kill 'em instead!

CIA and White House officials declined to make comments.

George Venizelos, the assistant director in charge of the New York FBI office, compared Abu Ghaith’s position in Al Qaeda to the consigliere in a crime family, or propaganda minister in a totalitarian regime. He said he used his role to persuade others to join ‘‘Al Qaeda’s murderous cause.’’

This is getting gross considering who is peddling this crud.

‘‘He had serious religious credibility inside of Al Qaeda,’’ said Seth Jones, a terrorism expert at the RAND Corp. Jones said it was unlikely that Abu Ghaith would have intelligence about any active Al Qaeda plots, but said that he could be a useful source of information about the movement of the group’s operatives through Iran.

Translation: the NEXT BIG BANG of a GOVERNMENT-RUN FALSE FLAG will be BLAMED on IRAN -- with cooperation from the CIA-Duh that hates them.

But the plan to put Abu Ghaith on trial in New York City drew immediate criticism.

Representative Mike Rogers of Michigan, the Republican chairman of the House Select Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that Al Qaeda leaders captured on the battlefield should not be brought to the United States for trial. ‘‘We should treat enemy combatants like the enemy — the US court system is not the appropriate venue. The president needs to send any captured Al Qaeda members to Guantanamo,’’ he said.

And all you politicians, too!

"Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law pleads not guilty" by Marc Santora and William K. Rashbaum  |  New York Times, March 09, 2013

NEW YORK — Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, a son-in-law of Osama bin Laden who once served as a spokesman for Al Qaeda, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday morning in US District Court in Manhattan, where he was charged with conspiring to kill Americans.

They double-crossed you, huh?

John P. Cronan, an assistant US attorney, said in court Abu Ghaith had spoken at length with US law enforcement officials after his arrest by federal authorities on Feb. 28. Cronan cited a 22-page document detailing his statements but did not characterize them. The statements were not made public.

The appearance of Abu Ghaith before Judge Lewis A. Kaplan in the cavernous, wood-paneled ceremonial courtroom in Lower Manhattan, just blocks from the site of the Sept. 11 attack, was not without symbolism. But details of both the defendant’s role in Al Qaeda and his arrest remained unclear....

Philip L. Weinstein, one of three lawyers the judge appointed to represent him, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during the proceeding, which lasted less than 20 minutes.

Cronan asked that Abu Ghaith be held without bail. Weinstein did not challenge the request but left open the possibility of making a bail application later.

Cronan said the government would take three weeks to present its case at trial, but no date was set.

Kaplan summarized the single charge facing Abu Ghaith and explained his rights. The proceedings were translated into Arabic for Abu Ghaith, who listened on headphones.

Justice Department officials described him as a propagandist. They said they believed that he had not had an operational role in Al Qaeda for years and that he did not participate in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

I guess that clears things up. King is a liar!

But one law enforcement official said that Abu Ghaith, 47, was the most senior Al Qaeda figure to face criminal trial in New York. He was married to bin Laden’s daughter Fatima, and the indictment alleges a working relationship with bin Laden, who was killed by US forces in 2011....

LIES, LIES, LIES!

The decision to hold Abu Ghaith’s trial in the United States was criticized by some lawmakers. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate minority leader, said in a statement that Abu Ghaith had knowledge of Al Qaeda’s activities and that he should have been held at Guantanamo Bay, where he might have been ‘‘fulsomely and continuously interrogated without having to overcome the objections of his civilian lawyers.’’

So Mitch is for TORTURE, 'eh?

RelatedMitch McConnell is a Misogynist

He's also an Islamaphobe, but that comes with hanging around Israelis and AIPAC lobbyists.

Outside the courthouse, where dozens of news organizations stood vigil in the blustering wind and snow, there was a noticeable increase in security, with police officers patrolling the perimeter with bomb-sniffing dogs and extra barriers set up for crowd control....

UNREAL!

And for all the media pukes, global warming!

On the morning after the attacks, Abu Ghaith appeared with bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri, then bin Laden’s deputy and now his successor. Abu Ghaith later delivered a speech warning that ‘‘the storms shall not stop, especially the airplanes storm,’’ and advised Muslims, children and opponents of the United States ‘‘not to board any aircraft and not to live in high-rises.’’

And?????? So what happened? All we get are guys who soil their underwear now.

One person with knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Abu Ghaith’s arrest and his statements to FBI agents and New York police detectives from the Joint Terrorist Task Force said the suspect was disappointed but not surprised when he was arrested.

Yeah, he's one of their agents and assets.

When Abu Ghaith spoke at length with investigators, before and after requesting a lawyer, he was consistently pleasant and respectful, the person said.

The person would not characterize the statements’ nature or value but said that whenever agents and detectives had a chance to talk to someone like Abu Ghaith, it was useful....

Officials have said Abu Ghaith, who is said to have lived in Iran for the past decade, was initially detained in Turkey, while staying in a hotel in Ankara, but was taken into US custody in Jordan.

And then he shut up.
