WORCESTER — A former Leicester Middle School music teacher has been sentenced to up to 13 years in prison for raping a 12-year-old student.
David Gilman was sentenced Thursday in Worcester Superior Court following his conviction last week on charges of child rape aggravated by age difference and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child. The assaults occurred in 2009 at the school where Gilman, 44, of Brookfield, worked for 15 years, prosecutors said.
The victim, now 16, testified that Gilman kissed and fondled her in a music room and band room , the Telegram & Gazette reported.
Gilman’s lawyer, Michael Cashman, said his client’s judgment was clouded by alcohol abuse at the time, and he has since given up alcohol, making him a better father and husband.
