Slow Saturday Special: New Bedford Negotiators

"New Bedford standoff ends peacefully

A four-hour standoff in which police exchanged gunfire with a man holed up in a New Bedford condominium ended with the suspect in custody. Police Chief David Provencher said officers responded to the Southcoast Condominiums complex at about 5 p.m. Thursday for reports of a despondent and suicidal man. Following the arrival of the department’s tactical unit, the man shot at police from his window. He retreated into the apartment after police returned fire. There were no reports of injuries. Provencher credited police negotiators with getting the man to surrender at about 9 p.m. (AP)."
