"Teacher in North Attleborough faces charge of raping student" by Catalina Gaitan | Globe correspondent May 27, 2014
A North Attleborough middle school guidance counselor and chorus teacher pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of raping a student and sending a former student sexually explicit text messages, police said.
Brian McBride, 31, who lives in Attleboro, was arraigned Tuesday in Attleboro District Court on three counts of aggravated statutory rape, one count of enticement of a child, and one count of distributing obscene matter to a minor.
McBride is being held on $30,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court June 27 for a pretrial hearing, a court clerk said. The sexually explicit text messages to the former student were reported to North Attleborough police over the Memorial Day weekend. An investigation by Attleboro and North Attleborough detectives found that McBride had also allegedly raped a current student, according to a statement from North Attleborough police.
McBride has been terminated from his teaching and counseling positions at the North Attleborough Middle School, according to a statement from Superintendent Suzan Cullen.
“We will not tolerate egregious acts against innocent children,” Cullen said. “The safety and well-being of the students remains the district’s paramount concern.”
