Pakistan Powder Keg

SeeWHO says Pakistan city is world’s largest polio pool

"UN says spread of polio now a world health emergency" by Maria Cheng | Associated Press   May 06, 2014

LONDON — For the first time, the World Health Organization on Monday declared the spread of polio an international public health emergency that could grow in the next few months and unravel the nearly three-decade effort to eradicate the crippling disease.

The agency described polio outbreaks across at least 10 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East as an ‘‘extraordinary event’’ that required a coordinated international response.

Genocide by vaccination. Didn't always see it that way, but.... either that or a continuos money-maker for some pharmaceutical.

It identified Pakistan, Syria, and Cameroon as having allowed the virus to spread beyond their borders, and the group recommended that those three governments require citizens to obtain a certificate proving they have been vaccinated for polio before traveling abroad.

‘‘Until it is eradicated, polio will continue to spread internationally, find and paralyze susceptible kids,’’ Dr. Bruce Aylward, who leads WHO’s polio efforts, said during a press briefing.

Critics, however, questioned whether Monday’s announcement would make much of a difference, given the limits faced by governments confronting not only polio but armed insurrection and widespread poverty.

‘‘What happens when you continue whipping a horse to go ever faster, no matter how rapidly he is already running?’’ said Dr. Donald A. Henderson, who led the WHO’s initiative to get rid of smallpox, the only human disease ever to have been eradicated.

If you are the U.S. government you flog the lies more.

The WHO has never issued an international alert on polio, a disease that usually strikes children under 5 and is most often spread through infected water. There is no specific cure, but several vaccines exist.

Experts are particularly concerned that polio is reemerging in countries previously free of the disease, such as Syria, Somalia, and Iraq, where civil war or unrest now complicates efforts to contain the virus. It is happening during the traditionally low season for the spread of polio, leaving experts worried that cases could spike as the weather becomes warmer and wetter in the coming months across the northern hemisphere. I stick to my earlier statements.

I no longer believe the globe-kickers who have made such a mess of the world for their own benefit, mean us well.

The vast majority of new cases are in Pakistan, a country that an independent monitoring board set up by the WHO has called ‘‘a powder keg that could ignite widespread polio transmission.’’

Dozens of polio workers have been killed over the last two years in Pakistan, where militants accuse them of spying for the US government.

Because there is precedent.

Those suspicions stem at least partly from the disclosure that the CIA used a Pakistani doctor to uncover Osama bin Laden’s hideout by trying to get blood samples from his family under the guise of a hepatitis vaccination program.

US commandos killed the Al Qaeda leader in May 2011 in the Pakistani garrison town of Abbottabad.

At the end of last month, there were 68 confirmed polio cases worldwide, compared with 24 at the same time last year. In 2013, polio reappeared in Syria, sparking fears the civil war there could ignite a wider outbreak as refugees flee to other countries across the region. The virus has also been identified in the sewage system in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, although no cases have been spotted. In February, the WHO found that polio had also returned to Iraq, where it spread from neighboring Syria.

Looks like what I first thought.

Pakistan tied to polio spread, UN says

"Pakistan bracing for polio travel restrictions" Associated Press   May 07, 2014

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan scrambled Tuesday to meet new international travel restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of polio, including setting up vaccination points at all airports, officials said.

Is that why the terrorists attacked them?

The World Health Organization has declared the spread of polio an international public health emergency and identified Pakistan, Syria, and Cameroon as having allowed the virus to spread beyond their borders. It recommended that those three governments require citizens to obtain a certificate proving they have been vaccinated for polio before traveling abroad.

The restrictions will be a heavy burden, but Pakistan is convening emergency meetings and implementing measures such as setting up desks for polio vaccinations at all airports to comply with them, health minister Saira Afzal Tarar told the private Dawn TV station.

‘‘It is an extraordinary situation,’’ she said.

Don't fly to Pakistan.

Another daunting task is to determine how much vaccine would be required for thousands of people traveling abroad from Pakistan on a daily basis, she said.

The governments usually ask the companies to overproduce, thus guaranteeing revenue if if the stuff is dumped later (like in the swine flu $windle).

The authorities have been asked to compile the data as soon as possible, she said, and the Pakistani military was already coordinating with civilian authorities to help secure health workers in dangerous areas.

The vast majority of new polio cases are in Pakistan, a country that an independent monitoring board set up by the WHO has called ‘‘a powder keg that could ignite widespread polio transmission.’’ The disease is largely found in the northwest, where Islamic militants make it difficult to reach children for vaccination and spread propaganda claiming the vaccine makes boys sterile.

As if we needed another reason to wage war on them.

"CIA: No more vaccination campaigns in spy operations" by Lena H. Sun | Washington Post   May 20, 2014

WASHINGTON — Three years after the CIA used an immunization survey as a cover in its hunt for Osama bin Laden, the White House has promised that the Central Intelligence Agency will never again use a vaccination campaign in its operations, an official said Monday.

And thus ALL SIMILAR PROGRAMS are SUSPECT!

Responding to a letter from the deans of 12 US public health schools, Lisa Monaco, the assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, informed them last week that the CIA will no longer conduct such campaigns, White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said.

So they say. Does anyone in this world believe them?

The deans wrote to President Obama in January 2013 to protest the precedent set when the CIA used Shakil Afridi, a Pakistani surgeon, to seek information about bin Laden under the guise of conducting a hepatitis immunization survey in the northwest city where the Al Qaeda leader was later killed in a raid. The goal of the immunization survey was to obtain fluid containing DNA from relatives living near the bin Laden residence.

Time to throw out this garbage.

The effort failed and Afridi was convicted of treason in Pakistan. He has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

‘‘This disguising of an intelligence-gathering effort as a humanitarian public health service has resulted in serious collateral consequences that affect the public health community,’’ the deans wrote.

Yeah, no one trusts them anymore!

The administration’s response on Friday said that under CIA policy, established by CIA Director John Brennan in August 2013, ‘‘the agency will make no operational use of vaccination programs, which includes vaccination workers.’’

"Pakistani doctor who aided US faces charge" Associated Press   November 23, 2013

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — A Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden has been charged with murder over a 2006 surgery he performed, his lawyer said Friday, raising new doubts whether he will regain his freedom.

Shakil Afridi already is being held in prison pending retrial on a separate charge, despite US officials demanding he be released.

Then Afridi is a U.S. asset!

The case has caused friction between Pakistan and the United States, complicating a relationship that Washington views as vital for fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda, as well as negotiating an end to the war in neighboring Afghanistan.

The murder charge stems from a complaint over a teenage boy who died after Afridi performed surgery on him for appendicitis in 2006.

The complaint, filed by the boy’s mother, says Afridi was not authorized to operate on her son because he was a physician, not a surgeon, said the doctor’s lawyer, Samiullah Afridi. The boy died from complications following the surgery, which took place in the remote Khyber tribal area, the lawyer said.

The lawyer, who is not related to his client, said the case had no merit because too much time had passed since the incident.

The doctor is currently being held in prison. He was convicted of ‘‘conspiring against the state’’ in May 2012 and sentenced to 33 years in prison. His conviction was related to allegations that he gave money and provided medical treatment to Islamist militants in Khyber, not for helping the CIA track down bin Laden.

Reinforces the myth does all this coverage.

"Gunmen shoot, kill vaccination worker

ISLAMABAD — A health worker supervising a polio vaccination campaign was fatally shot and two others were wounded Saturday when gunmen opened fire at a hospital in northwestern Pakistan, officials said. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the killing, but the Taliban, which accuses the United States of using a drive to eradicate polio in the country as a cover for spying, has threatened the lives of health workers who immunize children (New York Times)."

Hey, spying ain't beanbag! Sorry the propaganda backfired on you.

"3 dead in attacks on polio teams in Pakistan" Associated Press   December 14, 2013

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Attacks on polio teams in Pakistan on Friday killed a polio worker and two policemen assigned to protect one of the teams, police said.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Pakistani militants have killed more than a dozen polio workers and police protecting them over the past year.

Hmmmmm!

They claim health workers are spies for Washington and that the polio vaccine is intended to make Muslim children sterile.

Right on one, right on another is my motto. The reverse is lie once, lie in all things, and that gets you to my morning paper.

In the first attack, two officers were shot in Swabi. Hours later, a polio worker was shot on his way home after vaccinating children in Jamrud.

Message received: Muslims hate children.
