Carnegie Mellon Mistake

Maybe pairing a steel-shipping (and alleged pacifist? Must have been elite pacifism in the form of letting others fight and die while enriching oneself) magnate with a banker to develop a global Navy wasn't that great an idea.

"Carnegie Mellon mistakenly admits 800 students" Bloomberg News  February 18, 2015

NEW YORK — Carnegie Mellon University has joined the ranks of MIT, Johns Hopkins University, UCLA, and other elite schools that have recently broken hearts through a technology glitch, by mistakenly e-mailing hundreds of applicants that they had been accepted.

The admissions office incorrectly sent an e-mail Monday to about 800 people who had applied to the university’s master’s program in computer science, university spokesman Ken Walters confirmed.

“We understand the disappointment created by this mistake, and deeply apologize to the applicants for this miscommunication,” Walters said. “We are currently reviewing our notification process to help ensure this does not happen in the future.”

The e-mail was first obtained by Gawker.
