"Holder was among the relatively few Democrats who argued that the Geneva Conventions should not apply to terrorism suspects"
"Marri case is just a taste of hard choices waiting for Obama" by Peter S. Canellos, Globe Staff | December 9, 2008
.... No matter how it's resolved, however, the Marri case is just the tip of the iceberg - the first of a series of decisions that Obama will have to make on the president's powers to authorize wiretaps, detain prisoners, and approve harsh interrogations. And some of those decisions will be made in secret, so it could take years before enough people became aware of them to put together legal challenges.
The OBAMA DICTATORSHIP!!! Much more palatable to the AmeriKan sheeple!! Heck, the controlled left press is going to APPLAUD IT!! They ALREADY ARE!!!!
On the campaign trail, Obama condemned Bush's broad-brush policies in these areas, and suggested that he would be far more conscious of civil liberties.
Still, Obama's point man is likely to be his attorney general-designate, Eric Holder, whose record is moderate to conservative on these issues. Holder was among the relatively few Democrats who argued that the Geneva Conventions should not apply to terrorism suspects, since they are not part of a formal army. More recently, Holder called for closing the Guantanamo Bay prison, but his position seemed to be based more on concerns that the prison was harming America's image than that people were being held illegally....
Oh, NOT that TORTURE is WRONG and based on a CROCK of LIES!!!!
It is the IMAGE that is the PROBLEM!!! How could the IMAGE be a problem when there is SO MUCH SECRECY!!!

"Obama backers look for ways to carry out the call for change" by Scott Helman, Globe Staff | December 9, 2008
..... If Obama's campaign was about bringing change to the country, the post-election period is about defining what that change means and how to achieve it. His backers are already using networks developed during the campaign to rally support for causes including building local neighborhood organizations and eliminating racial disparities in the criminal justice system....
Oh, NOT ENDING the WARS or anything like that!! In other words, BUSINESS AS USUAL!!!!
************
Supporters and activists are also pondering exactly what their relationship with Obama's administration will be, knowing their job will entail both supporting initiatives they like and challenging ones they don't....
Those are the same questions supporters of Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts were asking after he won office in 2006 and promised to maintain ties with his own grass-roots network, a relationship that may hold lessons for Obama.
Over the past two years, Patrick has regularly met with and solicited input from those supporters, and some - including a group of Massachusetts dairy farmers, who successfully pressed for more state financial assistance - used their organizing skills and access for concrete ends. But Patrick also found that campaign supporters will not necessarily march in lockstep behind him as governor. Many, for example, opposed his push for casinos and let him know....
Oh, isn't that special! The guv cuts out tax breaks and tax giveaways for special interests that can bring pressure to bear!!! And yeah, CASINOS are the ANSWER!!!!

"Obama, Biden to meet Gore to discuss climate change
President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden plan to meet privately today with former vice president Al Gore to discuss climate change and alternative energy jobs, Obama's transition office said.... Obama has counted Gore as an adviser on climate change and has pledged to use part of his proposed economic stimulus package to develop green technologies aimed at creating jobs.
Since serving two terms under former president Bill Clinton, Gore has become a leader in the movement to draw attention to climate change and global warming, sharing the Nobel Peace Prize last year for his work. His documentary film on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," won an Academy Award the same year.
Well, now I know enough to discount any opinions coming from the Nobel Prize and Academy Award people.
Of course, it WILL get better for the BLACK MAN, right?
"54th Regiment invited to inauguration
The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment and the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment reenactors have been invited to march in President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural parade, his inaugural committee announced yesterday. The nation's first all-black regiment was commissioned during the Civil War by President Abraham Lincoln, whom Obama has said he admires. The parade will include bands and other groups marching down Pennsylvania Avenue following Obama's swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol.
Now why does the Globe CUT from its WEBSITE what I am LOOKING AT in my PRINTED PAPER!
"These organizations embody the best of our nation's history, diversity, and commitment to service," the president-elect said in a statement.
