You see, America? Not everyone is hurting like you this holiday season:
"Novell's quarterly profit meets estimates" by Bloomberg News | December 5, 2008
Novell Inc., the second-largest US seller of Linux software, met analysts' estimates with its fourth-quarter profit, excluding some costs, after it cut jobs and offloaded consulting tasks to partner companies.
Leaving out the expense of writing down securities and other costs, profit was $20.3 million, or 6 cents a share, compared with $23.4 million, or 7 cents, a year earlier, the Waltham firm said. Sales were little changed at $244.7 million.
Novell eliminated about 10 percent of its workers last year and is handling more of its orders online, rather than relying on a traditional sales force. Its software competes with Red Hat's version of the Linux operating system.
