The Fading Hopes of Change

I had slim ones going in, and now they have descended into despondency.

"Schools, parents plan events to view Obama" by John C. Drake, Globe Staff | January 19, 2009

First- and second-grade teachers Cristina Santos and Alexandra Flores have been teaching their students about the significance of Barack Obama's election. Now they are ready to gather them tomorrow in a room at the John Eliot School (K-8) in the North End to watch the first black president take the oath of office.

There is just one question. Will all the students show up? Recognizing the historic nature of Obama's inauguration, many parents in the region are considering whether to pull their children out of school to make watching the inauguration a family event.

If I were the kid, I would just be happy to be getting out of school.

Yeah, Mom, I'll watch it!

"This is history and a landmark occasion, and some days that's the best education they can get," said Joel Barrera of Natick, who will be keeping his 9-year-old daughter, Mila, and 8-year-old son, James, out of Johnson Elementary School to attend an inaugural viewing party in Boston.

"If the education they get that day is anyone can grow up to be president then that's a good educational day," Barrera said. "That's what we want them to feel in their bones."

What BULL!! Any guy who gets CLOSE to the office has been PRESELECTED by the GLOBALIST MASTERS, and 'bamer no exception!

Then again, that's what we do here in AmeriKa -- teach lies!

School officials said yesterday they understand some parents might want to be with their children to watch the events in Washington unfold. But they said the school day does not stop for history.

Yeah, unless it is the MURDER of JFK or the 9/11 ATTACKS!!!!

"While some families may want to make this a family event, we really expect students to be in school," Carol R. Johnson, superintendent of Boston public schools, said in an interview. "We are prepared to make sure that we have opportunities for them to recognize and celebrate the inauguration and understand how the democratic process works. We've sent schools guidance on how to capitalize on the inauguration as a real teachable moment."

Yeah, we can all pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves how great we are -- as the mass-murder and torture of Muslims continues!!

She said one group of students with a guaranteed excused absence are the more than 75 middle school and high school students from Boston who will travel with school groups to the Capitol to watch the inauguration in person. Students wrote essays to earn the trips and helped raise money to pay for their travel, school officials said....

Yup, we have TRILLIONS for BANKS and WARS but the SCHOOLKIDS have to PAY THEIR OWN WAY!!

"Once torn by race, Birmingham puts its hope in unity" by Lisa Wangsness, Globe Staff | January 19, 2009

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - .... Obama has made reconciliation between red and blue America the centerpiece of his career, and is entering office amid signs of real progress - an easing of tensions that have raged for years or decades....

Obama arrives with the highest favorability ratings of any new president in a generation.

Translation: We are going to get a bunch of stuff rammed down our throat!

His campaign's favorite word was "hope," and many here see in Obama a validation of the promise America offers all its people.

I thought it was CHANGE?

But fear may be an even more powerful force for unity.

Oh, so ANOTHER 9/11 INSIDE JOB on the way, huh?

People are terrified by the rising unemployment rate and sinking home values, worried that petty arguments could keep the new administration from addressing serious problems, and a sober urgency seems to have taken hold....

DeShaunda Morse, a 31-year-old bank teller, voted for McCain because she opposes abortion, but since the election she has grown increasingly worried about whether her husband will keep his job at the Mercedes plant. She hopes Obama will fix the economy.

Jamie Cawood, a 32-year-old socially conservative Republican and property developer who recently transformed a crumbling Masonic lodge in a poor section of town into a striking event space, also voted for McCain. He is still worried that Obama might raise his taxes, he but likes the fact that Obama is young and smart, and that he is reaching out to conservatives like Rick Warren, the evangelical pastor who will give the inaugural invocation.

That will make the gays mad (see culture war post on today's roster).

"I think he's crossed some boundaries that other Democrats wouldn't have been willing to do," he said.

So WHEN is he going to meet with the RON PAUL WING, huh?

Jimmy Callis, a wry 59-year-old hatter and shoe repairman with flowing white whiskers, grouses about the lobbyists who run Washington and the vanity of the school system's last superintendent, who he said used to carry on long conversations with his personal trainer on his cellphone while getting his shoes shined.

Callis has not voted in years, and he did not cast a ballot last November. But eventually he concedes that he hopes Obama can restore his pride in being an American. "But it's been awhile."

It has been a while, and nothing but the end of empire and apologies to those we've harmed can atone!!!

And guess what? You aren't getting "HOPE," either!

"Global crises temper adulation Obama was given; Many taking a wait-and-see approach" by William J. Kole, Associated Press | January 19, 2009

.... Though much of the world will party through the night tomorrow after Obama is sworn in as America's 44th president - just as it did when he was elected - there are signs the ardor is cooling as the sheer weight of his challenges sinks in.

A deepening global recession, new hostilities in the Middle East, complications in closing the Guantanamo Bay prison, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan - an impatient world has a stake in all of them and is asking how much change Obama can deliver....

Muslims want to know why Obama hasn't joined the chorus of international criticism of Israel's offensive in Gaza.

It's NOT JUST THEM! Of course, we KNOW WHY he doesn't speak out against his controllers!

Last week posters of him were set on fire in Tehran to shouts of "Death to Obama!"

I guess the U.S. better go to war with 'em then, huh? Good thing we never exagerrate or lie about people, huh, Amurka? You know, like Saddam and his "noo-ku-lar" bombs!

"By the time Obama takes office, hundreds or thousands more will be killed in Gaza and it will be too late for him to act," said Adel Fawzi, an Egyptian government clerk in Cairo.

Obama has expressed concern about Gaza, but says he is reluctant to say much more until his inauguration. Meanwhile the global economic collapse is already closing in on him. Around the world, leaders and their publics are waiting to see what he does to calm roiled markets and restore confidence.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany both say they're confident the Obama administration will succeed in working with Europe and China to build a stronger global economy....

"The United States can't solve all the world's problems," Reginald Dale, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said in an interview. "It doesn't have enough money or military power. And the president is constrained by Congress and the constitution. The founding fathers wanted to stop someone from being like a monarch."

First of all, WHY NOT? We CREATE ENOUGH of 'em!!! As for the $$$ and military, well, REIGN IN the EMPIRE then!

And SINCE BUSH, when has the president been "restrained by Congress and the Constitution?" The "founding fathers" are TURNING OVER in their GRAVES!

Dozens of developing countries rely on US foreign aid, which historically has been generous. But an administration preoccupied with keeping Americans from losing their homes and jobs may have to cut back on foreign assistance.

But NOT to ISRAEL!!! We are SENDING THEM MORE!!!!!

Even items on Obama's agenda that initially seemed straightforward are turning out to be fraught with complications, such as closing the Guantanamo Bay prison in eastern Cuba. Obama has hinted that it may be his first executive order - but analysts say it could take a year to accomplish....

Oh, now he is only "hinting" at it!

Obama Will Still Torture

Sigh!
