Massachusetts Doesn't Care About I.D. Theft

Sort of puts a whole new light on the AmeriKan police and security state, no?

"ID theft rules too costly, state businesses say

Massachusetts business owners and advocates protested new identity theft regulations at a hearing yesterday, saying the rules to protect customers' credit card and personal information will be too costly and time-consuming in a down economy.

I thought NOTHING was TOO COSTLY or TIME-CONSUMING to fight the "terrorists" that are around every corner!!!!

The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation hearing was about again extending deadlines for the rules, which require businesses to encrypt laptops, wirelessly transmitted data, and consumers' information. Those who testified said the law will impede interstate commerce, hurt job creation, and cost too much for small businesses.

Yeah, when it comes to the $$$, all of sudden the concerns about "terrorists" go out the window!

Companies and advocates asked the Patrick administration in a letter Thursday to reissue new regulations on May 1 and give them two years to comply. The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation already extended deadlines for various encryptions to May 1, 2009 and Jan. 1, 2010.
