The tool you would use got swiped anyway, Bostonian -- even as violent crime rose (so what's with the lying, Globe?):

"Thefts drive increase in MBTA crime" by Michael Levenson, Globe Staff | January 17, 2009

A year after recording the lowest crime level in a decade, the MBTA saw crime shoot up last year, rising 20 percent from 2007 to its highest level in five years, a troubling trend that the Transit Police blamed on a rash of thefts of iPods, Sidekick phones, and other electronic devices popular among younger riders....

In addition to the increase in thefts, violent crime rose 5 percent last year....

Seriously, what is with the LYING?

The MBTA has tried several strategies to combat the theft of electronic devices. Officers last year tried to warn the public about the thefts through the news media, and by handing leaflets to riders with electronic devices. Plainclothes officers with iPods also rode the T but did not catch any thieves red-handed....

More WASTED TAXPAYER DOLLARS!!!! And while the authorities have their panties bunched up their asses over phones:

Teen killed on bus was kidnapped in October

Yeah, I guess the Boston cops have better things to do
:

"Earlier this month, police wrapped up a 30-day sting involving plainclothes officers mimicking tourists and other pedestrians. Once they were panhandled, they essentially became victims guaranteed to show up for a trial"

Yeah, the Boston cops got time to cruise the strip, bust brothels, hang out in bars, buy drugs, and worry about cellphones while ROBBERIES, RAPES, and MURDERS go UNSOLVED!!!

WTF are they paying you for, other than to enforce tyranny upon themselves?

Btw, what ever happened to David Woodman investigation?

In addition to the rise in the number of thefts, police saw a jump in the number of riders, particularly women, reporting sexual harassment and groping. The T in April 2008 launched a campaign to encourage riders to report such assaults. The T also dispatched female plainclothes officers to patrol the subway for gropers.

Yesterday, one of the officers, a Transit Police detective riding the Blue Line in East Boston, arrested a 51-year old Beverly man after he allegedly indecently assaulted the officer....

Why does ENTRAPMENT ENTER my brain, and CUI BONO?

The COP SAID, huh?
