Today's Corner Kicks Picks

First match at the World Cup is Honduras against Chile.

(I will update as long as I watch as Honduras and Chile are nearly ready to kick off)

So what is the Globe
predicting for today?

"
Clinton looks for hemispheric solidarity" by Associated Press | June 8, 2010

LIMA — US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton opened a four-nation tour of Latin America and the Caribbean yesterday hoping to boost cooperation on security matters and build consensus on contentious issues like US immigration laws and the fallout over last year’s coup in Honduras....

Gee, when was the last time we even saw
Honduras in the paper, readers?

Yeah, U.S. was FOR that COUP so any concern disappears from the agenda-pushing newspaper!

One of the most divisive topics facing the OAS — whether to readmit Honduras to the regional bloc — is not on the formal agenda. Yesterday, Nicaragua lost a bid to include Honduras on the agenda when a majority of foreign ministers objected.

The United States wants Honduras allowed back into the organization following elections that brought the current president, Porfirio Lobo, to power after the June 2009 coup that ousted his predecessor, Manuel Zelaya.

Yes, we ONLY RECOGNIZE the elections where OUR GUY WINS -- something Hamas knows all too well.

Other governments, notably Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, are opposed and insist that Zelaya be allowed to return home first.

Clinton noted that the United States, along with the rest of the OAS, had condemned the coup but had also worked to restore democratic order.

There IS NO BUT, sorry!!!

“Now it is time for the hemisphere as a whole to move forward and welcome Honduras back into the inter-American community,’’ she told the group. Lobo, she said, had fulfilled his pledges to form a unity government and created a national reconciliation commission.

Yeah, I thought she sounded like a broken record.

Also of great concern in Latin America is Arizona’s new immigration law, which some believe will lead to racial profiling.

The law, which takes effect July 29 unless blocked by a court as requested under pending legal challenges, also makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally or to impede traffic while hiring day laborers, regardless of the worker’s immigration status.

Well, that's the definition of a crime, yeah.

And Americans sure wouldn't want those construction jobs, what with the social security and health benefits that come with them.

It would become a crime for illegal immigrants to solicit work.

That is why BUSINESS LOVES THEM!

NO BENEFITS, NO TAXES, and NO COMPLAINTS!

And no expensive, complaining Americans!

OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza has called the law “an issue of concern to all citizens of the Americas, beginning with the citizens of the United States.’’ Other nations have complained loudly about it.

Yeah, becau$e of REMITTANCE$, if you know what I mean.

As for Chile, no article today and that has been standard practice since the
earthquake .

The AmeriKan MSM sure forgot that historic quake quick.

Globe prediction: Honduras, 1-0.

The second match of the morning is Spain against Switzerland, the final two teams to see action.

Spain scores first with a photo that only appears in print:

"HEAVY RAINS OVERWHELM SPAIN -- Rains caused flooding in the northern Spanish region of Asturias. Above, an inundated neighborhood in Vegadeo (Boston Globe June 11 2010)."

Yeah, no reason they should ever run an article on the Spanish floods.

Too much of another type of flood in the newspaper.

Besides, we get the
same treatment here.

Yup, MSM washes away all sins.

So how about the Swiss?

"Acupuncturist accused of giving clients HIV" by Associated Press | June 11, 2010

GENEVA — Authorities in Switzerland are investigating whether an acupuncturist intentionally infected at least 15 people with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, an official said yesterday.

The case shocked Switzerland when it came to light earlier this week, after Swiss tabloid Blick reported that authorities had kept silent on the allegations since first receiving a complaint five years ago....

Is there ANY GOVERNMENT on EARTH that is NOT LYING to its people?

The "tabloid" told the TRUTH, huh, MSM?

"Deal reached; Swiss man leaves Libya" by Associated Press | June 14, 2010

TRIPOLI — Libya said yesterday that Switzerland has paid $1.5 million for mistreating Moammar Khadafy’s son during his arrest there in 2008, and a Swiss citizen held in Tripoli arrived in Zurich, as the countries ended a two-year diplomatic row.

The two nations struck a deal to end a dispute that began with the two-day detention of Hannibal Khadafy and his wife for allegedly beating their maid in a Swiss hotel.

Libya’s protests of their arrests quickly escalated, and in February Moammar Khadafy even called on Muslims to wage jihad, or holy war, against Switzerland.

Amid the row, Libya arrested two Swiss businessmen and tried them on charges of violating residency laws and operating a business illegally....

Amnesty International has said one of the prosecutions, that of Max Goeldi, was politically motivated.

During the dispute, Libya suspended visas for Swiss citizens, withdrew funds from Swiss banks, stopped oil shipments, and reduced flights to Switzerland.

THAT will get their attention!

Under the agreement, Switzerland apologized for the ‘‘unlawful publication’’ of photographs of Hannibal Khadafy. It said it would open a criminal investigation to find those responsible and pay compensation if they were not found.

For its part, Libya agreed to expedite the request for Goeldi to receive a judicial pardon.

Great deal, huh?

"
Swiss lawmakers may send UBS deal to a popular vote" by Lynnley Browning and David Jolly, New York Times | June 16, 2010

Swiss lawmakers have approved a deal to disclose the names of thousands of US clients suspected of evading taxes through accounts at a UBS bank, but whether American prosecutors get the names could now be up to Swiss voters....

The possibility of a popular ballot on one of the largest tax controversies in global financial circles is the latest setback for the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service, and for UBS, one of the world’s largest banks....

Lying Looters Large and Small: Secret Stashes and Secret Deals

I should have opened an account.

Under a deal signed last year between the United Sates and Switzerland, the IRS and the Justice Department are seeking to force UBS and the Swiss government to disclose 4,450 accounts held by Americans suspected of evading taxes through UBS’s private offshore bank. The Swiss Parliament took up the issue after the courts blocked the disclosure, ruling that it violated national secrecy laws....

A top Swiss official who spoke on condition of anonymity said yesterday that the earliest a referendum could be held would be in February. Switzerland, the official said, was ready to ask the Justice Department and the IRS to extend the Aug. 24 deadline.

They grant those to white-collar criminals covering their tracks all the time here.

US prosecutors and officials, however, have grown impatient. Yesterday, the IRS reiterated a plan by the authorities to revive a civil case against UBS that seeks to force the bank to turn over 52,000 names of American clients, if the 4,450 accounts are not disclosed by the deadline.

How many cheats you guys hiding in that small, land-locked country of Alpine mountains anyway?

“We have an agreement with the Swiss government which calls for them to provide us with the names and other information of approximately 4,500 US account holders at UBS,’’ an IRS spokesman, Frank Keith, said in a statement. “While we look forward to a positive resolution of this matter, we remain prepared to use all available options, including the US courts, should the present efforts fail.’’

The civil case is separate from the criminal investigation of UBS, which culminated in February 2009 in a $780 million deferred-prosecution agreement with the bank.

They got off easy, proving once again that governments work with and serve banks.

Prosecutors have the right to argue that UBS has violated the deferred-prosecution agreement if it does not hand over the 4,450 accounts — a point that could lead regulators to consider revoking UBS’s banking license in the United States.

So how did the Globe do yesterday?

Korea scored once after the Globe predicted two goals. At least they got the ratio correct.

Let's go to the highlights the Globe provides us today
:

"Exterminator is charged with using banned pesticides; Brazilian national pleads not guilty" by Brian R. Ballou, Globe Staff | June 16, 2010

A Brazilian national who ran an extermination company in Everett was arrested early yesterday by federal authorities on charges of using chemicals banned indoors and operating without certification.

Several hours after his arrest, Josimar Ferreira was arraigned by US Magistrate Jennifer C. Boal on charges that he violated federal law by using malathion and carbaryl, agricultural pesticides banned for indoor use, in jobs to eradicate beg bugs in Quincy, Somerville, Malden, and Everett....

Ferreira was ordered released on personal recognizance but was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Not a good situation:

Antiterror tactic is assailed, defended

The Illegal Immigrant Imprisonment Industry

Clear the Court: Boning Immigrants

(Chile scored in the 34th minute to take a 1-0 lead)

According to the affidavit, Ferreira entered the United States in 1996 on a tourist visa, which expired months later.

So he has been ILLEGAL ALL that time but has a BUSINESS GOING?

Ferreira has been living in Everett for about five years, near his business, TVF Pest Control, on Main Street, and has been married for 14 years. His wife and 9-year-old daughter live with him....

All while the U.S. government reads your e-mails and listens to your phone calls, Americans.

Prosecutors say they will probably not seek jail time for Ferreira.

????????? What the heck? U.S. military and Israel can dump chemical weapons on people so why should this guy do time for poisoning them with pesticides?

Deportation is also a possibility....

But he's got the kids and the wife so I'm sure he will get a humanitarian exception like the gay couple.

That's your Brazilian highlight in today's paper; now for Korea
:

"N. Korea warns of military response to UN inquiries on ship sinking; Demands that inspection team be allowed at site" by Edith M. Lederer, Associated Press | June 16, 2010

UNITED NATIONS — In a lengthy opening statement, North Korea’s UN Ambassador Sin Son Ho said the Security Council had already been besmirched in February 2003 due to then-US Secretary of State Colin Powell’s “lies’’ about Iraq.

That's a GOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLL!!!!!!!

He was referring to Powell’s presentation to the council making the case for war against Iraq that included evidence indicating Saddam Hussein possessed nuclear weapons, which proved to be false....

Yeah, the AmeriKan MSM can't call them lies because they helped shovel them with front-page precision.

Meanwhile yesterday, air raid sirens blared as hundreds of thousands of South Koreans donned gas masks in a nationwide civil defense drill, as Seoul’s defense chief said North Korea has bolstered its military readiness amid tensions over the sinking of a South Korean warship.

Translation: WAR is COMING SOON!

Although both Koreas have exchanged harsh rhetoric and increased their military vigilance in recent weeks, Seoul officials have said it is unlikely renewed tension would lead to all-out war.

Also see: South Korea Tosses Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Overboard Over Sub Sinking

The defense drill was the first on a nationwide scale for possible chemical, biological, and radiological attacks since 1989, the National Emergency Management Agency said. It said the exercise was resumed in the aftermath of the ship sinking in March....

So WHEN is the SECOND ATTEMPT at a FALSE FLAG PRODUCING WAR, MSM?!!!!
