Boston Police Get a Taste of Own Medicine

Doesn't taste too good, does it?

"Brockton officer hurt by mob after getting family’s call for help" by Sydney Lupkin, Globe Correspondent | June 10, 2010

A Brockton police officer responding to a 911 call was overcome by an angry mob, a confrontation that sent him to a hospital with a concussion, cracked ribs, and a back injury, authorities said yesterday.

Hey, he lived.

Not everyone does.

“That’s the difficulty of being a police officer,’’ Mayor Linda Balzotti of Brockton said by phone yesterday, calling the incident disheartening because it shows a lack of respect....

Well, RESPECT has to BE EARNED and BEATING PEOPLE to
DEATH doesn't help!

Backup officers responding to his call for help shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday found Officer Eric Smith surrounded by more than a dozen people outside 108 Pine Grove Drive, said Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

The end of "
District 9?"

Smith appeared to be “cornered and injured,’’ yelling for his team to arrest a suspect, identified as Trevell Starks, 27, of Brockton.

As police looked on, Starks punched Smith in the face, knocking him to the ground, Cruz said. Starks then kicked the fallen officer as the crowd around him grew. Starks then began reaching for Smith’s firearm, Cruz said.

When another officer used pepper spray, Starks fled for the house, locking himself in a bathroom. Several members of the crowd blocked police from pursuing Starks, Cruz said. Starks eventually emerged from the bathroom and punched a state trooper, Cruz said.

Brockton Police Chief William Conlon said he could not recall an attack on an officer quite as severe.

“Sometimes they spit at us; sometimes they kick at us,’’ Conlon said. “This guy was in a rage. He was out to get everybody. He had no respect for anything or anyone.’’

********

Conlon said that respect for authority figures has diminished over the years, but that Starks’s behavior was “way outside the norm.’’

Yeah, because of the BEAT-DOWN TYRANNY and the LYING about it, duh!!

“Years ago, you wouldn’t even look cross-eyed at a police officer,’’ Conlon said.

Actually, you STILL CAN'T!

In fact, WHEN COULD YOU?

Smith “was responding to a call for help, trying to help this man’s family, and this is what he got in return.’’

As citizens have found out from the cops, sometimes that happens when you call for help.
