"China launches English-language network" by Associated Press | July 2, 2010

BEIJING — The news agency run by China’s ruling Communist Party launched a global English-language television channel yesterday as part of its efforts to expand its influence abroad.

At least it will act as counterweight to all the Zionist propaganda.

Specialists say China’s media expansion also results from unhappiness with the international coverage of sensitive events in China such as Tibet and human rights.

Oh, DON'T I KNOW IT!

The government has accused international media organizations of being biased and focused on negative news.

And we know in favor of whom.

China Xinhua News Network Corp. began broadcasting its first English TV service, CNC World, around the clock yesterday, including news segments, feature stories, weather updates, and special bulletins, the official Xinhua News agency said.

“The English service will provide international and China news with a Chinese perspective to global audiences,’’ CNC’s president, Wu Jincai, said at a news conference....

Say CNC not CNN, American!!!!

The network will have about 70 percent international news and 30 percent news about China, with a range of topics such as breaking news, travel features, sports, and weather, Wu said....

Sounds good!

So what are we getting for reports?

"China shows journalists its secretive school" by Associated Press | July 1, 2010

BEIJING — China threw open the gates of its secretive Central Party School yesterday, offering foreign journalists a rare but carefully scripted peek at the leafy campus where the country’s communist elite are trained.

The tour is part of a drive by the government to show it is becoming more open and transparent....

How come the Chinese are getting these things as they are being stripped from you, American?

China’s top leaders are under pressure to show more of the government’s inner workings amid public anger over rampant corruption in its ranks and demands for accelerated political reform to help deal with sweeping social changes.

During the four-hour visit to the campus in Beijing’s northwestern university district, journalists got a glimpse of a lively lecture on how to manage people while fostering innovation, a gym where officials whacked at ping-pong and tennis balls, and a hotel-style dormitory complete with dry cleaning and CNN.

Each room was stocked with a small library of Chinese communist classics, including the collected works of revolutionary leader Mao Zedong. The campus bookstore offered a wider selection, including several books on the leadership style of President Obama and “Who Am I, The Autobiography of Bruce Lee.’’

"Landslide traps 107 in China" by Gillian Wong, Associated Press | June 29, 2010

BEIJING — A landslide caused by heavy rains trapped at least 107 people yesterday in southwestern China and there was little hope for their survival, a local official said. Rescue efforts were hindered by rain that threatened to wash more mud down hill slopes.

Many homes were buried when the landslide struck the village of Dazhai in Guizhou province in the afternoon after days of rain, a resident helping in the rescue effort, Huang Pangzun, said by phone.

And I get one little dinky article in the lower-right-hand corner of page A4.

I've given up trying to understand them. I think the printed paper is just like s*** tossed on a wall; Globe publishes what sticks.

The number of casualties was not immediately known, said an official in Guizhou province who would give only his surname, Xue. Another official, interviewed by state broadcaster CCTV, said nearly half a hill had collapsed, engulfing a wide area in soil.

Large areas of southern China have been hit by flooding in the last week, with at least 239 people killed and another 109 missing — not including those from Monday’s landslide. More than 3 million people have fled their homes over the past two weeks, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

A THREE-MILLION REFUGEE PROBLEM?!!

No wonder the Globe is keeping it quiet!!

On Sunday, floodwaters began receding in the hard-hit south and workers finished repairing a dike breach that forced the evacuation of 100,000 people.

But torrential rains have continued in the southwest where the landslide occurred, said Xue, the provincial official who works in the flood prevention headquarters.

Then WHY was this a ONE-DAY WONDER?

One last story before the broadcast ends?

"Fire on bus in central China kills 24" by Associated Press | July 5, 2010

BEIJING — A fire on a shuttle bus carrying steel factory workers in central China killed 24 people and injured 19, state media reported today....

Investigators were trying to determine what caused the blaze, the Wuxi Daily newspaper reported on its website.

Last year, a man ignited a bucket of gasoline on a bus in the southern city of Chengdu. The bus had sealed windows and no emergency exits, preventing escape, and 27 people died. That fire prompted safety checks for public buses and better driver training around the country.

Globe never bothered to follow up on that, either.

I'll bet the Chinese News Channel would!
