"Supporters Throw Rangel Swank Birthday Party Fundraiser as Ethics Charges Loom
NEW YORK -- New York's Democratic political establishment came out in force for embattled U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel on Wednesday, packing a sold-out fundraiser to praise Rangel's service to the city and state over a 40-year career recently tainted by ethics charges.
"I've been to a lot of funerals, and this damn sure isn't a funeral," Rangel said to loud cheers.
Hundreds of supporters crowded into the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan's Plaza Hotel for the fundraiser, which was tied to Rangel's 80th birthday. Rangel seemed ebullient as he moved through the crowd, joined by his wife and daughter. Singer Dionne Warwick led the crowd in serenading him to her hit song "That's What Friends are For."
This is SICKENING!
The show of public support for Rangel among the state's highest officials was the most striking element of the evening, given that many of them -- including U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo -- will face voters in November.....
They TRULY ARE out of touch!
A handful of protesters showed up carrying signs urging Rangel to step down, prompting former New York City Mayor David Dinkins to make an obscene gesture at them.
The fundraiser emerged as a test of political loyalty to Rangel, the dean of the state's congressional delegation....
The timing of Rangel's high-profile fundraiser spooked many Democrats nervous about the likelihood of steep losses in November.
That must be why the Globe failed to cover it.
Indeed, only six of the state's 27-member House Democratic delegation attended the event, along with Rep. Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania.
That's a REJECTION, Rangel!
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted the absences of some lawmakers, making a subtle crack about their lack of loyalty....
And that dual-national Zionist Jew would know all about lack of loyalty.

The Globe did give you the defiant Chuck:
"Rangel blasts ethics panel
WASHINGTON — In a defiant and highly unusual speech, Democratic Representative Charles Rangel defended himself yesterday against ethics charges by lashing out at the committee holding his trial, poking fun at President Obama, ridiculing conservative House Democrats, and refusing to resign quietly.
“I am not going away,’’ Rangel, 80, said in a speech from the well of the House.
A few lawmakers, including some members of the Congressional Black Caucus and fellow liberals, applauded while most of his colleagues sat stone-faced.
Because he is MAKING THEM LOOK REAL, REAL BAD -- and they don't need the help!!!!!
Midway through the 37-minute speech — which Rangel gave under the rare “point of personal privilege’’ rule to speak on any topic — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, went to the back of the chamber to huddle with aides....
Rangel reserved his most acrid comments for the roughly 10 Democrats from conservative leaning districts who have called for his resignation and Obama....
He admitted to sloppy mistakes in filing his personal financial disclosure forms — which formed the basis of several counts against him, for not revealing more than $600,000 in income and assets — and acknowledged he should not have used congressional stationery for raising money for the college wing at New York University. But he said these were unintentional errors.
That is the WHOLE PROBLEM!
He THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT!!
