"Bear euthanized after Mont. mauling" by Associated Press | July 31, 2010
BILLINGS, Mont. — Wildlife officials euthanized a grizzly bear yesterday after DNA tests determined that the sow and her cubs were responsible for a triple mauling that killed a Michigan man and injured two other campers.
The state Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Department said hair, saliva, and tissue samples tested in a DNA identification lab in Laramie, Wyo., confirmed the adult bear was the same one that rampaged through Soda Butte Campground near Yellowstone National Park early Wednesday....
Authorities said the bear family, under the tutelage of the mother, targeted campers — a departure from the usual behavior of grizzlies attacking only when threatened or surprised.

Evidence indicated all three cubs participated in what Warden Captain Sam Sheppard called a sustained attack on Kevin Kammer of Grand Rapids, Mich....
Maybe they were just hungry, anyone ever think of that?

Jackie Worstell, zoo executive director, said yesterday the two female cubs and one male cub showed signs of stress that may help explain their mother’s unusually aggressive behavior....
The 300- to 400-pound sow was euthanized Friday after DNA tests confirmed that she and her cubs were responsible for the triple mauling....
How human! Or is that humane!?
So now three grizzly cubs are without a mommy, huh?

HELENA, Mont. — A federal judge in Montana has ruled that a US Forest Service plan to spray herbicide from helicopters over the Kootenai National Forest does not adequately protect dozens of grizzly bears.
US District Judge Donald Molloy says such frequency and duration would probably have an adverse effect on the bears. The Alliance for the Wild Rockies sued the Forest Service over the weed-spraying plan, saying it would drive bears from their habitat and could be harmful to people in the Libby area....
