"Police say mother ran over daughter, 10

State Police say a 10-year-old girl is recovering from leg injuries she suffered after she was run over by her mother who was distracted by a cellphone. The name of the girl was not released. Police say Susan Hedstrom, 43, had let her daughter out of a van at the Green Lantern mobile home park in St. Johnsbury at about 10:45 Tuesday morning. The girl walked in front of the vehicle, but then stopped to pick up a bag she had dropped. Hedstrom told police she was distracted while on the phone and lost sight of the child as she pulled the car forward. Both of the girl’s legs were run over. Police say the girl was hospitalized, but her injuries were not life-threatening (AP)."

"Driver flees police and dies in crash

The driver of a Chevy Blazer died after crashing into a tree and telephone pole after speeding from a traffic stop in Williston late Friday. Police identified the victim as Paul West, 32, of Hinesburg. Police said a passenger was extracted from the wreck and hospitalized. Williston police said an officer attempted to stop the vehicle for erratic operation about 11 p.m., but the driver refused to stop and took off heading east on Williston Road. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but came upon the crash. State Police are investigating (AP)."

"Man, 58, dies in tractor rollover accident

The Vermont State Police said a 58-year-old man died when a tractor rolled onto him. Bruce K. Bakaian was attempting to make a left turn at the bottom of a steep hill about 9:45 a.m. Sunday when the tractor with an attached rake rolled onto him. Bakaian was pronounced dead at the scene (AP)."
