Yankee Candle Flame Flickers

And they are supposed to be the savior employer of the county.

"Yankee Candle narrows its loss" by Globe staff | August 13, 2010

Yankee Candle Co., a Deerfield company that makes and sells candles, said it lost $10.2 million in second quarter, compared with a loss of $12.5 million a year earlier.

Gee, they have not been doing so well since I left.

Overall sales for the period rose 5.5 percent to $125.4 million, while sales at stores open at least a year, a key measure of a retailer’s financial health, fell 3.1 percent.

Wholesale revenue, meanwhile, rose 5.8 percent.

Revenues rose but they still lost money?

“The retail environment was considerably more challenging in the second quarter than in the first, as the consumer became increasingly cautious,’’ said Harlan Kent, the company’s chief executive.

Translation; the crap is overpriced because of a name.

Yankee Candle operates 473 retail stores.

As with any job, I miss some of the people and (surprisingly) some of the work.
