NEW YORK — In 2010, major airlines made a combined $2.6 billion in profits, less than they collected in bag fees....
“If it weren’t for the fees, the airlines would most likely be losing money,’’ said Jim Corridore, a Standard & Poor’s analyst.
That’s little comfort to fliers, who feel nickel-and-dimed by the airlines and face a summer of higher airfares....
Not to mentioned personally violated by the TSA.
None of those fees are subject to taxes.
Airlines raised ticket prices early in the year. But those increases did not keep up with the price of jet fuel. More-recent attempts to raise fares have failed because passengers balked at paying more. I'm tired of excuses.
Simple solution: Don't fly anywhere.
