AmeriKan Media Sends Mixed Messages on Yemen

"It is unclear how far the Saudis would go to prevent [Saleh] from returning to his homeland. The kingdom and the United States have been deeply reluctant to enter into an open clash with a longtime ally"

And in the article directly below it in my printed PoS:

"Saudi Arabia, with US backing, will almost certainly prevent Saleh’s return to Yemen"

I guess the agenda-pushing AmeriKan media has its ass covered anyway, huh?

"US, Saudis race to finalize transfer of power in Yemen" June 07, 2011|By Ahmed Al-Haj, Associated Press

SANA, Yemen — With the wounded president out of Yemen, the United States and Saudi Arabia scrambled yesterday to arrange a power transfer ensuring an end to his decades-long rule. But a top official said President Ali Abdullah Saleh, recovering in Saudi Arabia, would return home within days, a step almost certain to reignite violence.

Translation: The PtB are trying to co-opt the revolution.

A return by Saleh probably would spark intensified fighting between his forces and opposition tribesmen determined to topple him.

Both sides’ fighters are deployed in the streets of the capital, and a cease-fire brokered by Saudi Arabia a day earlier was already starting to fray, with clashes killing at least six....

A renewal of fighting could push the impoverished nation into outright civil war. The United States fears that Al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen could exploit the turmoil to strengthen its presence in the country, which it has used as a base for plotting two attempted anti-U.S. attacks.

“We are calling for a peaceful and orderly transition, a nonviolent transition that is consistent with Yemen’s own constitution,’’ US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said. “We think an immediate transition is in the best interests of the Yemeni people.’’

Hillary the hypocrite!

Furious diplomatic efforts were underway involving the Saudis, the United States, the Yemenis, and Gulf Arab nations to work out a transfer of power, a US official said. He likened the complex process to “four-dimensional chess.’’ The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter....

Saudi Arabia wields enormous influence with Saleh, providing his regime and many of Yemen’s tribes with substantial financial aid. But it is unclear how far the Saudis would go to push him to accept the deal or prevent him from returning to his homeland. The kingdom and the United States have been deeply reluctant to enter into an open clash with a longtime ally....

Yeah, right.

"Loss of key ally likely to test US; With Saleh flight, terror threat rises" June 07, 2011|By Peter Finn, Washington Post

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia, with US backing, will almost certainly prevent Saleh’s return to Yemen, and it is unclear who will replace him and whether there will be a change in attitude toward American efforts to target Islamic militants in the country.

The Pentagon and the CIA, which have steadily deployed more men and equipment to Yemen, including armed drones, will have to forge fresh relationships with whatever new leadership emerges in Yemen.

In other words, it WILL BE OUR MAN!!

And some in the opposition to Saleh have expressed skepticism about even the existence of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, describing the terrorist group that has come to preoccupy Washington in recent years as a myth.

Oh, the Yemenis KNOW ALL ABOUT "Al-CIA-Duh," huh?

Officials in the United States and elsewhere fear that the Al Qaeda group will exploit the turmoil in Yemen to solidify its base and launch fresh attacks.

So WHEN is the FALSE FLAG ATTACK, and are you really going to waste one implicating Yemen?

In recent weeks, US officials said, Yemen’s counterterrorism forces, including special forces units that the United States has helped fund and train, have been sent back to their barracks or diverted from the pursuit of AQAP militants.

Some observers said that if the violence continues, the chaos might put pressure on the United States to act unilaterally, including expanding the use of armed drones....

Oh, THAT is what all this is ABOUT!  Setting the stage for INVASION!!

Update: Yemen protests continue

Sorry, readers, I did not buy a paper today and don't feel like reading any Boston Globe today.
