"Framingham man drowns in pond; Victim was with friends" June 11, 2011|By Brian Ballou, Globe Staff

FRAMINGHAM — A Framingham man drowned early yesterday in a popular neighborhood pond after police responded to a report of trespassers there, according to authorities.

Gary Summers, 21 — who lived on Warren Road, about a five-minute walk from Learneds Pond — was unable to swim back to shore at about 2:30 a.m. and drowned in 10 to 15 feet of water, authorities said. He might have been attempting to elude police, who arrived at the pond to check on possible trespassers, according to the authorities....

Drunk?

Yesterday, Summers’ family mourned inside their multifamily house, on a street with well-manicured lawns. His sister, Tamika Summers, 23, stood at the front door and said her brother was a sports enthusiast who kept in top physical condition. She doubted that he did not have the ability to swim across the pond if he needed to.

“It just doesn’t make any sense; there must have been another reason,’’ she said....

Jennifer Jimenez, 25, of Framingham, said Summers was part of a tightknit group who frequented the pond, especially on hot days....

But this occurred in the middle of the night.
