"CIA-Duh" Consolidation in Yemen

Related: "CIA-Duh" Takes Control of Yemen

Had enough lies yet?

"Islamic militants have consolidated their hold over a southern city in Yemen, forcing merchants to lower food prices and helping residents who want to flee shelling by government forces outside the city, residents said yesterday.

Then I suppose they can't be all bad.

In contrast, militants in control of another nearby city are enforcing a stringent version of Islamic rule, forcing women to stay home and trying to recruit young men to their ranks, according to residents there.

That's the CIA-Duh I know!

Government forces do not appear to have the will to fight the Islamists, raising fears that Al Qaeda’s most dangerous wing is making significant gains as the weakened regime of President Ali Abdullah Saleh unravels in the face of an array of opponents.

So far, government troops and warplanes have been shelling only the two cities, Zinjibar and Jaar, in southern Abyan Province, often missing their targets and hitting residential areas instead.

And you wonder why Yemenis are turning to the "terrorists?"

"50 soldiers missing in Yemen after fighting" July 3, 2011

SANA, Yemen - About 50 Yemeni soldiers are missing after battling Islamic militants in the south of the country, a military official said yesterday.

Maybe they defected.

The soldiers have been missing since Thursday, after fierce clashes with the Al Qaeda-linked group Ansar al-Sharia in the southern city of Zinjibar, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters....

In a separate development, a Yemeni security official said tribesmen have attacked newly established positions of government troops near the country’s second-largest city, setting off clashes that killed four soldiers and a civilian....

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters. Witnesses say government troops fired shells, destroying six homes.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh is in Saudi Arabia for treatment of serious wounds sustained after an attack on his presidential compound last month. He remains bedridden and has trouble breathing and talking. Only relatives and his top adviser are allowed to visit him, one official said.

And we were told he was returning in days.

Elsewhere in Yemen, gunmen blew up an unused oil pipeline in the central province of Marib, the latest attack on the target in recent weeks, officials said yesterday....

Yemeni authorities stopped producing oil in May because of repeated attacks and labor unrest.

Yemen’s growing turmoil, including the government’s battle against Al Qaeda’s most dangerous wing in the south of the country, come at a time when Saleh’s weakened regime faces an array of opponents.

Government forces do not appear to have the will to fight the Islamists, raising fears that Al Qaeda is making gains.

Recent advances made by the militants in the increasingly lawless south are a clear attempt to exploit the power vacuum and turmoil caused by a popular uprising against Saleh that began in February.

Yup, if you are against a U.S.-sponsored tyrant you are a terrorist.
