Getting a Bed at the Bedford VA

It has been a long yet wonderful day and I am tired:

"Man admits to selling drugs at Bedford VA hospital" October 29, 2011|By Travis Andersen, Globe Staff

A man who supervised veterans enrolled in a substance abuse program at a hospital in Bedford admitted yesterday in federal court in Boston that he sold cocaine at the facility last year.

Patrick M. McNulty, 29, of Billerica, pleaded guilty to three counts of distributing a controlled substance at the Bedford VA Medical Center, where his duties included supervising patients working as laborers through a program called compensated work therapy, court records show....

According to court documents, a veteran being treated for drug abuse and other issues at the hospital told law enforcement personnel in November last year that McNulty regularly sold drugs including cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy to patients.

On Nov. 18, the veteran arranged to buy cocaine and ecstasy from McNulty and recorded their meeting that day under the direction of law enforcement.

The veteran bought about 2.5 grams of cocaine from McNulty for $130 and asked, “What about more coke?’’ records show.

McNulty said he could probably get more later in the evening and added, “I can get coke like it’s nothing,’’ the complaint said.

On Dec. 2, the veteran met with McNulty again to buy cocaine, but McNulty told him he did not have any, because his supplier became skittish when he found out that he worked at the facility, records show.

McNulty said his supplier told him, “I don’t like what you’re selling … that is like a powder keg waiting to blow up in your [expletive] face,’’ the complaint says.

The following week, the veteran bought about 3.8 grams of cocaine from McNulty for $160, and McNulty said, “See, the problem is I’m buying off two different gangs … and the two gangs don’t like each other,’’ according to the court filing.

A third drug transaction between the men was completed on Dec. 17, records show.

When confronted by federal agents in May this year, McNulty admitted that he began selling cocaine a few months before being hired by the VA in March 2010, the complaint states.

He admitted to selling drugs to the veteran working with investigators but denied selling them to others, authorities said....
