Sunday Globe Special: Gamblers Anonymous

I don't need to go, thanks. All my money is tied up in staying alive.

"Jackpot fueled therapist’s gambling addiction; Deborah Greenslit had modest dreams after winning big at Mohegan Sun. Two years later, she has gambled them away" by Bella English  |  Globe Staff, July 15, 2012

The jackpot is long gone, much of it poured back into the slots at Mohegan Sun.

It’s not an uncommon story in the gambling world, where fortunes can be made and lost the same day. But in Deborah Greenslit’s case the irony is striking: She is a therapist and wellness expert who has spent her career helping people with anxiety disorders, personal growth issues, and addictions.

Today, she rents an apartment in Kennebunk, Maine. She is trying to sell her home in the central Massachusetts community of Rutland, near her longtime counseling practice in Paxton. These days her main client is herself....

Casinos are coming to Massachusetts, and Greenslit sees her story as a warning for others tempted by the chance of hitting that life-changing jackpot....

Honestly, I'm not interested in gambler war stories. I've got problems of my own.

Too late now.

Btw, when is someone going to make an intervention with those guys down there, huh?

Greed is also an addiction, and from what I've seen it is the worst one.
