"Pit bull who fled after auto crash is found" by Lauren Dezenski |  Globe Correspondent, June 12, 2013

Lulu the pit bull, who ran away Monday morning after escaping a fiery auto crash with her owner on Route 24, was found after animal control officers and volunteers spent eight hours pursuing the pup, said Jeni Mather, a West Bridgewater control officer.

Searchers tracked the small black pit bull through woods in the Brockton area during the afternoon and evening Monday, eventually corralling her in a humane trap, Mather said. Brockton police were able to capture Lulu at roughly 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The dog was later brought to J.M. Pet Resort and Blue Dog Shelter, which Mather co-owns.

“She was hungry, very hungry, and she had ticks in her ears, which we’re treating with tick preventative now,” she said. “She was scared but friendly and very willing to come with us. And she was excited to arrive at her destination.”

Lulu was separated from her owner after their vehicle rolled over and was engulfed in flames on Route 24 in West Bridgewater.

The driver walked away with only minor injuries. By Tuesday evening the owner had not reclaimed Lulu.

"Dog owner charged in Calif. mauling death" by Christopher Weber |  Associated Press, May 31, 2013

LOS ANGELES — A Southern California man was arrested Thursday on a felony murder warrant stemming from the mauling death of a jogger by a pack of dogs this month.

The warrant against Alex Jackson, 29, also charges him with owner negligence, said Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Jackson was originally arrested shortly after the May 9 death of Pamela Devitt, 63, who was out for a jog when she was attacked by four pit bulls in Palmdale.

Jackson was released on bail while DNA testing was conducted to determine if his dogs carried out the attack.

Since January, authorities received at least three other reports of Jackson’s dogs attacking other people, according to Robeson.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s authorities said a driver saw pit bulls attacking Devitt in the high desert community of Littlerock.

An arriving deputy saw a dog still attacking the runner and tried to chase it off, Lieutenant John Corina said. The dog ran off into the desert, then turned around and attacked the deputy, who took a shot at the animal before it ran off again.
