Slow Saturday Special: Doyle's Deception

"Rhode Island institute founder charged with embezzlement

The founder of the Institute for International Sport once located at the University of Rhode Island gave himself $1 million in unauthorized salary increases and bonuses and used the institute’s money for personal expenses, including payments to his daughter’s college, according to a indictment unsealed Friday. Daniel E. Doyle, Jr. is charged with embezzlement, obtaining money under false pretenses, forgery, and filing false documents. State Police and the office of Attorney General Peter Kilmartin launched an investigation in February 2012 after an audit found the institute could not account for how it spent most of a $575,000 legislative grant."

That means taxpayer money, folks.
