Slow Saturday Special: Saudi Princess Arrested For Slavery

"Princess arrested in Calif. on human trafficking charge" by Amy Taxin |  Associated Press, July 13, 2013

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Authorities say the consulate of Saudi Arabia has posted the $5 million bail of a Saudi princess charged with human trafficking, Meshael Alayban, and she was released from custody Thursday.

Orange County Sheriff Department Lieutenant Jeff Hallock said Friday that the consulate delivered a $5 million check to the department.

The 42-year-old Alayban was arrested for allegedly holding a Kenyan maid against her will and forcing her to work long hours for meager pay.

The case is the first labor trafficking case prosecuted in Orange County since voters approved a law last year to stiffen the penalties for the crime.
