"Level 3 sex offender charged with indecent exposure at Brookline library" by Alyssa Creamer |  Globe Correspondent, September 29, 2013

A registered sex offender was arrested on Friday in Brookline and is being held without bail on charges of open and gross lewdness after he allegedly exposed himself to juveniles at a public library, police said.

John Beyers, 67, of 1848 Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton, is set to be arraigned Monday in Brookline District Court, Brookline Police Lieutenant Philip Harrington said in a statement. Beyers is considered a Level 3 sex offender, which indicates a “risk of reoffense is high.”

At approximately 4 p.m. Friday, officers responded to reports that a man had exposed himself inside the Coolidge Corner branch of the Brookline library, said Harrington. Later that afternoon, Beyers was identified and arrested.

Beyers also faces charges in connection with reports of a similar incident at the library just days before his arrest.

The first incident of indecent exposure reportedly occurred Sept. 21 around 4:30 p.m.

According to the state’s sex offender registry, Beyers has been convicted on nine counts of open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior related to seven separate incidents from June 2001 to August 2011.

In August 2010, he was charged with gross and indecent exposure for exposing himself to women at Reservoir Station on the D Branch of the Green Line.
