Taxpayer Dollars Put to Good Use

Since the Globe feels that way about this there really is no longer any point in reading it anymore:

"Netflix rescues furloughed federal workers" October 23, 2013

If Netflix’s viewership figures surge this quarter, the company can be thankful for the recent government shutdown. Furloughed federal workers, it seems, passed the time by bingeing on their favorite movies and TV shows. According to an analysis by The Huffington Post, the Washington metropolitan area — where many federal employees live — had a 15 percent spike in Netflix traffic on weekdays during the two-plus-week shutdown.

Workers who were furloughed will eventually receive back pay; some have already gotten unemployment payments from their respective states.

That they won't have to give back

Yeah, the catastrophic shutdown cost taxpayers money and gave the poor federal workers a two-week paid vacation at the expense of austerity-laden, sequestered-screwed American taxpayers!

These taxpayer dollars were being put to good use: One senior government analyst copped to watching four to six hours of Netflix shows per day during her furlough, as opposed to the two to three hours per week she spends normally....

Maybe that is supposed to be funny, but it is not. I'm rather tired of the elite insults and other witty quips.

For those outside the Beltway, the reality show going on under the Capitol Dome was enough to accomplish that.

It's all staged and scripted shit, folks. All of it, from what you thought you saw on 9/11 to Sandy Hook to the chemical attack in Syria.

Globe even likes the grea$e of corruption and bribes.

Thus is the agenda-pu$hing narrative of the ma$$ media.

No budget crisis or debt worries down there:

"Capitol dome to get first face-lift in more than 50 years" by Ashley Southall |  New York Times, October 23, 2013

WASHINGTON — Weather and plain old age have left the Capitol dome with more than 1,000 cracks and deficiencies like stains and rust, the architect of the Capitol said in a statement Tuesday.

Scaffolding will go up next month as crews begin a $60 million effort over several years to restore the Capitol to its “original, inspiring splendor,” said Stephen T. Ayers, the architect of the Capitol.

Are you flipping kidding?

“As stewards of the Capitol for the Congress and the American people, we must conduct this critical work to save the dome,” Ayers said. “From a distance the dome looks magnificent, thanks to the hard work of our employees. On closer look, under the paint, age and weather have taken its toll, and the AOC needs to make repairs to preserve the dome.”

I think we should put them all under a dome so they can no longer harm anyone, although the plain fact is they already live in a Beltway bubble. Congre$$ is so out of touch with the people it's scary.

The cast-iron dome was built during the Civil War and last had a face lift in 1959 and 1960. The “consistent bombardment of the natural elements” has allowed water to seep through the laminate coating of the dome, causing rust and stains that threaten the artwork inside, Eugene Poole, the project manager, said in a video that was released with the statement. Officials said they had identified almost 1,300 deficiencies and had collected hundreds of pieces of debris that had fallen from the dome and that they hoped to reattach.

It's not the environment that is causing the damage; it is all the steaming piles of stinking shit that occupy the place.

The rotunda will remain open, but tours of the dome will be canceled until the renovations are complete. Most of the work will be done on nights and weekends to prevent disruptions.

Workers will repair the cracks using a “lock-and-stitch” technique that involves filling the cracks with metal pins and installing locks to pull the sides of the cracks together and add strength.

Maybe the thing does need repair, but that's the whole point. This bankrupt government has neglected everything except aid payments to Israel, bailouts for Wall Street, funding for the war machine, corporate welfare for the well-connected, and the continued funding of lavish political lifestyles. That is what the AmeriKan taxpayer is now getting for his buck.
