Slow Saturday Special: Chess Master Makes Bad Move

Checkmate -- or not!

"Former chess master charged with sexual assault in R.I.

A former national chess master from Providence has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl after meeting her online. Rhode Island State Police said David Harris, 60, was arraigned in District Court and posted $10,000 bail Tuesday. He is charged with indecent solicitation and third-degree sexual assault. The girl told authorities she and Harris began communicating on a teenage chat website last year and eventually agreed to meet. Authorities allege Harris picked up the girl at her home in Foster and sexually assaulted her at his Providence home. State Police said Harris is director of the Blackstone Chess Club and Academy, which organizes chess tournaments in area schools."
