Covidien Cuts

"Covidien shifting 25 jobs to Costa Rica and Prague" by Robert Weisman | Globe Staff   April 23, 2014

Irish medical supplies giant Covidien PLC has notified about 25 logistics employees at its US headquarters in Mansfield that their jobs will be shifted to Costa Rica and Prague in the Czech Republic over the next 18 to 24 months, a company spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The move is part of a broader five-year restructuring plan unveiled last fall aimed at cutting costs and making Covidien’s global operations more efficient. The company said in November that it will shed a total of nearly 150 jobs worldwide, including about 70 in Mansfield.

“Covidien is committed to treating employees with dignity and respect,” said company spokeswoman Lisa Clemence. “We understand that changes like this are difficult and we are sensitive to the needs of affected employees. They will be eligible for severance as well as outplacement assistance services.”
