A South Dennis man was arrested for drunken driving Saturday night after his car, with his girlfriend and two children inside, crashed into a tree in Yarmouth Port, police said.

Daniel P. Eldredge, 35, crashed the vehicle at about 10:40 p.m. on North Dennis Road, Yarmouth police said in a statement. A tree then fell on top of the car, police said.

Eldredge’s girlfriend was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with a broken ankle, Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos said.

Eldredge, who suffered minor injuries, told police he had been drinking alcohol, police said. The officers determined Eldredge was intoxicated and arrested him. The children — an 8-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy — were turned over to their mother, Xiarhos said....

"Boy hit on Halloween still hospitalized

A 12-year-old Pawtucket boy remains hospitalized after a Halloween hit-and-run, and his dad is asking the driver to turn himself in. Dylan Greene was dressed as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from “Ghostbusters” and walking with his family at about 9:15 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street. WPRI-TV reported that he is being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital for injuries including a bruised heart, lungs, kidney, and spleen, and a broken skull, vertebrae, and ribs. Dylan’s father, Stephen, said he understands that accidents happen, but whoever hit his son must take responsibility."

"Open bottles of vodka lead to arrest of driver, police say

A 26-year-old Freetown man is facing drunken-driving charges after he was allegedly found with several opened bottles of liquor, including 42 opened 1.7-ounce bottles, or nips, of vodka, on Sunday, according to State Police. At about 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, a state trooper from the Dartmouth barracks stopped a Dodge pickup truck on Route 24 in Freetown, operated by James M. Woodward, State Police said. The trooper determined that Woodward was driving while impaired by alcohol and placed him under arrest. Woodward faces charges that include operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to State Police."

"Two arrested on heroin charges after traffic stop

State Police arrested two people on Route 28 in Bourne Sunday night for allegedly trafficking heroin, authorities said. At about 9 p.m. Sunday, Summer L. Sargent, 19, of Hyannis, and Edwin D. Rivera, 20, of Mashpee, were pulled over for motor vehicle violations including speeding and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, State Police said in a statement. During the traffic stop, the state trooper discovered Sargent and Rivera had approximately 72 grams of a substance believed to be heroin, State Police said. Sargent and Rivera are both charged with trafficking in heroin/morphine/opium. Sargent is additionally charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs."
