The State of News in Indiana

"Indiana Gov. Pence scraps plan for state-run news website" Associated Press  January 30, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS — Governor Mike Pence bowed to criticism Thursday, scuttling his plan to develop a state-run news website that had been widely lambasted for its pledge to offer prewritten stories to the media.

The truth is, it would only take the mask off the charade.

Pence issued a memo to agency leaders saying that the state would not create the website, which was to have been named JustIN, and instead would work to update an existing website offering news releases and public meeting notices.

‘‘As you are aware, concern has arisen regarding the development of a new website for the state of Indiana. However well intentioned, after thorough review of the preliminary planning and careful consideration of the concerns expressed, I am writing to inform you that I have made a decision to terminate development of the JustIN website immediately,’’ he wrote.

Legislative leaders from both parties hailed the decision to kill the project.

The Indianapolis Star had published internal documents that detailed plans for state press secretaries to write stories and news releases for the public and the media.

I seemed to remember such a scandal from a long time ago, and how odd that a certain news anchor would be cited in light of his current woes.

And you wonder why I don't believe a f***ing thing anymore?
