Sunday Globe Special: Graveyard Egregiousness

"Eastham man charged with rape of 14-year-old girl" by Alexandra Koktsidis Globe Correspondent  June 27, 2015

An Eastham man was arrested Thursday and charged with raping a 14-year-old girl the night before in a Hyannis cemetery, police said.

Police were called to the area near Pine Avenue in Hyannis about 8 p.m. Wednesday after girl was reported missing, a statement from Barnstable police said. The teenager’s bicycle was found nearby, and she soon appeared walking on the road, the statement said.

The victim identified the man as Bruce Henrique, 24. According to police, the girl said Henrique picked her up in his SUV, drove her to Oak Grove Cemetery, where the assault occurred, and drove her back to her bike.

She was taken to Cape Cod Hospital by Hyannis Rescue, according to police.

On Thursday evening, police arrested Henrique in his home. Police said he admitted driving the girl to the cemetery.

Barnstable detectives found that the victim had communicated with Henrique over Facebook and Snapchat for several weeks, but this was the first time they had met in person. Detectives also found that Henrique sent indecent photos of himself to the girl.

Henrique was charged with three counts of rape of a child under 16, enticing a child under 16, and several related charges. He was arraigned Friday in Barnstable District Court.
