CONCORD, N.H. — The mother of a 17-year-old girl who died of an overdose of a powerful painkiller last fall is heading for trial in federal court along with two others in April.
Jazzmyn Rood is charged with concealing knowledge and providing false information to police about the drug’s distribution in the death of her daughter, Evangelique ‘‘Eve’’ Tarmey, in October 2015. Tarmey died in a Rochester motel of acute fentanyl intoxication.
Mark Ross, Rood’s boyfriend, and Leslie Aberle are charged with giving Tarmey a drug that caused her death.
The cases originated in state court before being transferred last month to federal court, where the potential penalties are more severe.
‘‘The state graciously agreed that a federal prosecution, due to the available penalties, would further the public safety and interest,’’ said Donald Feith, assistant US attorney....
