Quincy Cop Went Crazy

"Quincy police officer to be arraigned after SWAT standoff" by John R. Ellement and Sean Smyth Globe Staff  January 17, 2017

A Quincy police officer barricaded himself inside a Raynham home Monday night, leading to a standoff in which shots were fired from the home, officials said.

The officer was identified by Quincy police as Keith Wilbur, an 18-year veteran of the force who has been assigned as a dispatcher for the past several years.

Quincy Police Captain John Dougan said Tuesday that Wilbur had earned several commendations during his career and was not the subject of any complaints related to his work performance or his conduct while off duty.

Wilbur barricaded himself inside a home on Britton Street, according to police and a town official.

He surrendered after a standoff that drew a SWAT team response and lasted for several hours.

Nobody was hurt, but police told reporters early Tuesday that two shots were fired from inside the residence during the standoff.

Raynham Selectman Joe Pacheco tweeted that the officer surrendered around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Wilbur was taken into custody after surrendering.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Taunton District Court on several charges, including threatening to commit a crime, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, armed assault with intent to murder, carrying a licensed firearm while intoxicated, malicious destruction of property, and improper storage of a firearm, according to the office of Bristol District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

A not guilty plea was entered on Wilbur’s behalf, and he was ordered to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing that is scheduled for Friday afternoon, prosecutors said.

Wilbur’s lawyer could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.

Dougan said Wilbur has been placed on administrative suspension while the case is pending.
