Slow Saturday Special: Globe Cleans Up BP Oil Slick

It's ALL GOOD NEWS on TOP so you CAN'T SEE CATASTROPHE!

"BP boss no longer in charge of spill oversight; Decision comes amid news of Gulf progress" by Ray Henry, Associated Press | June 19, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — BP removed Chief Executive Tony Hayward from day-to-day oversight of the Gulf oil spill crisis a day after he was pummeled by lawmakers in an appearance on Capitol Hill, the company’s chairman said yesterday.... overshadowing news that after many setbacks BP was finally making significant progress in siphoning and burning off oil from the underwater gusher.

Finally, finally, the government and BP are telling the truth.

Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen announced earlier yesterday that a newly expanded containment system is capturing or incinerating more than 1 million gallons of oil daily, the first time it has approached its peak capacity. And the system will soon grow. By late June, the oil giant hopes it can keep nearly 90 percent of the flow from hitting the ocean.

Isn't that JUST GREAT, Globe readers?

Yeah, BURNING the stuff is REALLY HELPING the AIR QUALITY and the global warming.

Allen also said the Coast Guard is ramping up efforts to capture the crude closer to shore with the help of private boats....

Yes, I would like a grain of salt, thank you.

The optimistic news about the containment plan was tempered by Hayward’s removal, which follows a June 4 announcement by BP that Dudley, an American oil executive, would lead the long-term response to the oil spill once the leak had been stopped. Svanberg’s statement appeared to accelerate that timeline, as millions of gallons of crude continue to gush into the Gulf....

Had enough yet?

The company also continues to struggle to compensate Gulf Coast residents and business owners who have been economically devastated by the spill. Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee said data it has collected show that BP has paid less than 12 percent of the claims submitted, by dollar value. BP, however, said the number was higher.

The committee said in a statement that data it collected showed only $71 million out of an estimated $600 million had been paid as of Tuesday....

And they have PLENTY of MONEY, too!!

How are you feeling about your news coverage, Globe readers?

Yeah, I AM SICK of FART MIST!!!

Kenneth Feinberg, who’s overseeing the Independent Claims Facility [and] was chosen by President Obama and BP for the role, was in Mississippi yesterday to meet with Governor Haley Barbour, reiterated that his office isn’t a government program. The lawyer, who oversaw payouts to victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, said he will be paid by BP but didn’t say how much.

Unflipping real!

This is Obama kicking BP's ass -- with his lips.

Skin flute, readers.

Meanwhile, vast amounts of natural gas contained in crude escaping from the blown oil well could pose a serious threat to marine life by creating “dead zones’’ where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.

Yeah, MEANWHILE, as an AFTERTHOUGHT underneath the MSM and Boston Globe SHIT!!!

The New Dead Zone

Yeah, I guess it is not news.

The danger presented by the methane has been largely overlooked, with early efforts to monitor the oil spill focusing on the more toxic components of oil. But scientists are increasingly worried about the gas that can suffocate sea creatures in high concentrations....

And YESTERDAY they told us nothing of the clean -up.

"How The Ultimate BP Gulf Disaster Could Kill Millions

.... By some geologists' estimates the methane could be a massive 15 to 20 mile toxic and explosive bubble trapped for eons under the Gulf sea floor. In their opinion, the explosive destruction of the Deepwater Horizon wellhead was an accident just waiting to happen.

Yet the disaster that followed the loss of the rig pales by comparison to the apocalyptic disaster that may come....

According to worried geologists, the first signs that the methane may burst its way through the bottom of the ocean would be fissures or cracks appearing on the ocean floor near the damaged well head.

Evidence of fissures opening up on the seabed have been captured by the robotic submersibles working to repair and contain the ruptured well. Smaller, independent plumes have also appeared outside the nearby radius of the bore hole itself....

With the emerging evidence of fissures, the quiet fear now is the methane bubble rupturing the seabed and exploding into the Gulf waters. If the bubble escapes, every ship, drilling rig and structure within the region of the bubble will instantaneously sink. All the workers, engineers, Coast Guard personnel and marine biologists measuring the oil plumes' advance will instantly perish.

As horrible as that is, what would follow is an event so potentially horrific that it equals in its fury the Indonesian tsunami that killed more than 600,000, or the destruction of Pompeii by Mt. Vesuvius.

The ultimate Gulf disaster, however, would make even those historical horrors pale by comparison. If the huge methane bubble breaches the seabed, it will erupt with an explosive fury similar to that experienced during the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in the Pacific Northwest. A gas gusher will surge upwards through miles of ancient sedimentary rock—layer after layer—past the oil reservoir. It will explode upwards propelled by 50 tons psi, burst through the cracks and fissures of the compromised sea floor, and rupture miles of ocean bottom with one titanic explosion.

The burgeoning methane gas cloud will surface, killing everything it touches, and set off a supersonic tsunami with the wave traveling somewhere between 400 to 600 miles per hour...."

Let's see how long the MSM can keep the lid on that.

While the president has been on the verbal warpath, the U.S. military has — with little notice – continued to carry on a major business partnership with BP, despite the company’s disastrous environmental record."
