"Sanctions won’t deter Iran, Netanyahu says; Contends threat of US military action might" by Jeff Bliss, Bloomberg News | July 12, 2010

WASHINGTON — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said yesterday that Iran’s nuclear program probably cannot be stopped by new UN and US economic sanctions imposed during the past month.

Give them what they want and they are still not happy.

Netanyahu, speaking in an interview broadcast on “Fox News Sunday,’’ said the threat of US military action might curb a drive for nuclear weapons capability. He argued that a nuclear Iran cannot be contained.

And threats are only good if they are ultimately carried through.

Otherwise they are known as empty threats.

I think he's all set, how about you?

“We’ve had effective nuclear peace for more than half a century because everybody understood the rules,’’ the Israeli leader said. “I don’t think you can rely on Iran.’’

This from a nation that tried to sell nukes to apartheid South Africa.

Oh, yeah, Iran is not making a bomb, either.

The United States and its allies are trying to thwart any Iranian attempt to develop a nuclear arms capability that would pose a threat to Israel and possibly set off a weapons race among other Middle East countries.

Yeah, only Israel can have them!

Iran maintains that its nuclear ambitions are confined to peaceful uses such as generating electricity.

But we don't listen to such truth her in AmeriKa's newspapers.

It's back to beating the drums of war for Israel.

Netanyahu said it is not apparent that Iran would hold back from using nuclear weapons in the interest of self-preservation.

“You can’t rely on the fact that they’ll obey the calculations of cost and benefit that have governed all nuclear powers since the rise of the nuclear age after Hiroshima and Nagasaki,’’ Netanyahu said, referring to the Japanese cities destroyed by US atomic bombs during World War II.

Looks as if they have made their own sets of calculations, huh?

President Obama’s willingness to consider military action if Iran continues its nuclear program “might actually have the only real effect on Iran, if they think it’s true,’’ Netanyahu said. He conferred with Obama at the White House on July 6.

In an Israeli television interview last week, Obama said there are indications Iran is pursuing production of a nuclear weapon. “I assure you I have not taken options off the table,’’ Obama said....

Gee, WHO was the LAST U.S. president to say such things?

Some change!

"Iran halts woman’s stoning sentence" by Associated Press | July 12, 2010

TEHRAN — The death sentence by stoning for an Iranian woman convicted of adultery will not be implemented for now, a judicial official said yesterday.

A world outcry over the sentence has become the latest issue in Iran’s fraught relationship with the international community....

Stoning was widely imposed in the years following the 1979 Islamic revolution, and even though Iran’s judiciary still regularly hands down such sentences, they are often converted to other punishments.

The last known stoning was carried out in 2007.

What was that (cough), readers?

"Iranian, thought to be defector, wants ticket home; Kidnapping claim denied in bizarre saga" by David E. Sanger, New York Times | July 14, 2010

WASHINGTON — An Iranian nuclear scientist who US officials say defected to the United States last year provided information about Iran’s nuclear weapons program and then had second thoughts, walked into the Iranian Interests Section of the Pakistani Embassy here Monday night, and declared he wanted a ticket back to Tehran.

The bizarre episode was the latest in a tale that has featured a mysterious disappearance from a hotel room in Saudi Arabia, rumors of a trove of new intelligence about Iran’s nuclear facilities, and a series of contradictory YouTube videos. It immediately set off a renewed propaganda war between Iran and the United States.

Iranian officials have said for months that the 32-year-old scientist, Shahram Amiri, was kidnapped in spring 2009, taken to the United States, and tortured. Iranian media quoted Amiri yesterday as saying the United States had wanted to quietly return him to Iran and “cover up the kidnapping.’’

Related: Iran's Missing Nukes

So that is where he was taken.

US intelligence officials scoffed at that account.

Then IT MUST BE TRUE!!!

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in the first official acknowledgment of Amiri’s presence in the United States, said he had arrived “of his own free will’’ and could leave whenever he wished.

How can you believe anything she says?

Just a lot of embarrassing and drunken chatter.

But clearly the latest chapter in the saga of Amiri, a specialist in radiation detection, embarrassed US intelligence agencies and offered a peephole view of the “brain drain’’ program to lure Iranian scientists and engineers out of their country.

That's what they are calling kidnapping and torture these days, huh?

Amiri was described as an important source but was considered too junior to have deep knowledge. According to a US intelligence official, Amiri used his expertise in radiation detection to monitor employee safety at many of Iran’s atomic facilities.

Translation: He doesn't know anything because there is not anything to know.

The saga began when he vanished during a religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia 13 months ago. Almost immediately, it was clear he was in the hands of Western intelligence agencies, and US officials now say he was spirited to the United States....

It is unclear when Amiri’s debriefings ended. But at some point he was placed in a sort of witness-protection program for defectors run by the CIA, and starting in the spring his nervousness about the fate of his wife and child grew markedly.

So he ESCAPED, is that it?

Ha-ha-ha.

A former senior US intelligence official said he believed the Iranians had threatened Amiri’s family, and a current US official said “the Iranians are not above using relatives to try to influence people.’’

Neither is the United States:

"We have your sons: CIA

Two young sons of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the September 11 attacks, are being used by the CIA to force their father to talk. Yousef al-Khalid, 9, and his brother, Abed al-Khalid, 7, were taken into custody in Pakistan in September when intelligence officers raided a flat in Karachi where their father had been hiding."

"Would you admit to being the mastermind of 9-11 to save your kids from being tortured before your eyes? Assume that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed loves his children as much as you do and that any confessions are worthless." -- Mike Rivero of whatreallyhappened.com

The same can be said for Ms.
Siddiqui.

Don't you LOVE AmeriKan HYPOCRISY!?

Whatever the reason, one evening Amiri made a video.

Yeah, WHATEVER, MSM!!!

Pffffffftt!!!!

It showed a young man speaking in Persian and saying he had been kidnapped in a CIA-Saudi operation in Medina on June 3, 2009. He said he had been injected with something and when he awoke he was on a plane heading to the United States. He said he was recording the video on April 5, in Tucson, Ariz.

Hours later, another video appeared on YouTube. Amiri looked well-groomed. He identified himself as a student in a PhD program and said he was eager to complete his studies and return to his family. He insisted he was free and safe, and he demanded an end to what he called false videos about himself, saying he had no interest in politics or experience in any nuclear weapons programs. He then made a third video, similar to the first.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

I'm laughing and it ain't because of the weed!

Can you GUESS WHICH one was the CIA FAKE!?

Clinton left it unclear why Amiri made his dramatic appearance at a storefront offshoot of the Pakistani Embassy on Monday evening, seeking refuge, a passport, and a plane ticket.

Would you trust an answer from a drunk?

Clinton, answering questions at a news conference at the State Department, said Amiri had been scheduled to leave for Iran a day earlier, but “was unable to make all of the necessary arrangements’’ to travel through other countries.

Ha-ha-ha-ha!!

“He’s free to go,’’ she said. “He was free to come. Those decisions are his alone to make.’’

Please, stop it. No more!

It is unclear what awaits Amiri in Iran, whether a hero’s welcome or an interrogation by Iranian authorities. Amiri had worked at Malek Ashtar University in Iran, which is linked to the powerful Revolutionary Guards, and the National Council of Resistance of Iran, an opposition group based in France, reported in April that Amiri worked at the “Mojdeh’’ site, which they described as an atomic nerve center that is disguised as an academic complex.

"US paid Iranian nuclear scientist to help CIA, officials say; Allege $5m spent for intelligence" by Greg Miller, Washington Post | July 15, 2010

WASHINGTON — The Iranian nuclear scientist who claimed to have been abducted by the CIA before departing for his homeland yesterday was paid more than $5 million by the agency to provide intelligence on Iran’s nuclear program, US officials said.

Shahram Amiri is not obligated to return the money, but might be unable to access it after breaking off what US officials described as significant cooperation with the CIA and abruptly returning to Iran. Officials said he might have left out of concern that the Tehran government would harm his family.

“Anything he got is now beyond his reach, thanks to the financial sanctions on Iran,’’ a US official said. “He’s gone, but his money’s not. We have his information, and the Iranians have him.’’

Amiri went to the Iranian diplomatic mission in Washington this week and asked to be sent home. US officials, who said Amiri had been working with the CIA for more than a year, were stunned by the decision.

Why is this article a total rewrite from what appears in my printed paper?

Amiri arrived in Tehran early today to a hero’s welcome, including personal greetings from several senior government officials. His 7-year-old son broke down in tears as the scientist held him for the first time since his mysterious disappearance in Saudi Arabia 14 months ago.

In brief remarks, Amiri told reporters, “I am so happy to be back in the Islamic Republic,’’ and he repeated his claims of having been abducted by US security forces. He said CIA agents had tried to pressure him into making propaganda against his homeland.

I'm starting to doubt the $5 million dollar pay-off poop.

Amiri also said that he knew little of Iran’s main nuclear enrichment site. “I’m a simple researcher.’’

State-run Iranian television broadcast nonstop stories Wednesday about the 32-year-old scientist who disappeared in Saudi Arabia last summer and surfaced Monday in front of Iran’s diplomatic mission. Amiri told officials that he had been abducted by US intelligence operatives and had spent much of the past year in Tucson being questioned about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Whether the CIA received an adequate return on its $5 million investment in Amiri is difficult to assess....

I'm glad you had $5 million dollars kicking around, taxpayers.

Are you NOT TIRED of the WAR WASTE because I KNOW I AM!!!

The transfer of millions of dollars into Amiri-controlled accounts also seems to bolster the US government’s assertions that Amiri was neither abducted nor brought to the United States against his will.

Translation: It is ANOTHER PILE of LYING GOVERNMENT HORSE SHIT!!!!!!

And WHY was THIS CUT and REMOVED, webbers?

Amiri's case has provided a rare public glimpse into the espionage sparring between the United States and Iran, much as the capture and swap of Russian undercover operatives this month exposed the extent to which such cloak-and-dagger endeavors have outlasted the Cold War.

And one knew the Russians were involved somehow, right?

"Russia offers Iran help in oil industry" by New York Times | July 15, 2010

MOSCOW — Russia’s energy minister announced yesterday a broad program of cooperation with Iran in the oil, natural gas, and petrochemical industries that appeared to invite Russian companies to contravene sanctions the Obama administration adopted two weeks ago.

The sanctions were meant to be an additional means of punishing Iran for refusing to unwind its secretive nuclear program after the United States was able to persuade Russia and China to agree to limited new trade restrictions in a fourth UN Security Council resolution against Iran, passed in June. Australia, Canada, and Europe also decided to put additional measures against Iran in place.

While intended to discourage the type of investment the Russian minister talked of, the US sanctions law provides a presidential waiver for companies in nations otherwise seen as cooperating in discouraging Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

Israeli Oil Shipments Exempt From Iran Sanctions

Yeah, you SEE who is getting the WAIVERS!!!

Iran, though a major exporter of crude oil, imports tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline daily to make up for its faltering refining capacity.

So their military machine will just grind to a halt, won't it?

The US sanctions impose penalties on foreign entities that sell refined petroleum to Iran or aid Iran with its domestic refining capacity, a focus intended to exact a financial toll on the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the hard-line group that oversees the country’s nuclear and missile programs and controls much of its oil industry.

President Dmitry A. Medvedev of Russia voiced opposition to adding any sanctions beyond those imposed by the United Nations, and the foreign ministry warned the United States against trying to punish Russian companies under the new unilateral sanctions.

Yesterday, Russia’s minister of fuel and energy took the most overt stance against the US sanctions so far, announcing the plans for closer cooperation between Russian and Iranian petroleum interests.

The Russian statement suggested a working group be formed to identify areas of deeper cooperation in the oil and petrochemical industries, proposing a study for a Russian-Iranian joint venture oil.
