Slow Saturday Special: FDA's Gulf Coast Feast

One can't blame you for crying into your shrimp creole, America.

"The FDA is not monitoring fish and shellfish for the presence of Corexit because it is not considered a health risk"

And yet they are TELLING YOU it is SAFE to EAT!

"FDA sees no harm to seafood from dispersants used in gulf" by Lyndsey Layton, Washington Post | August 7, 2010

WASHINGTON — Chemical dispersants sprayed into the Gulf of Mexico to break up the massive oil spill from the Deepwater Horizon disaster do not appear to threaten the safety of seafood in the affected waters, the Food and Drug Administration said....

FDA scientists do not believe that the chemicals accumulate significantly in the tissue of fish and shellfish, and so even if the fish absorb the chemicals through gills or other ways, the fish do not retain them, Jeanne Ireland, FDA’s assistant commissioner for legislation, wrote to Representative Edward Markey, Democrat of Massachusetts.

Then why are there warnings about mercury in the fish, etc, etc.

If you cry enough tears will it wish away the poisons in the Gulf?

That means they do not pass up the food chain to humans and are not considered a public health concern, according to the FDA.

Are you sure they are looking out for your health, or is it $omething else, Americans.

BP sprayed 1.8 million gallons of the dispersant Corexit on the surface of the gulf and, for the first time, at the wellhead a mile underwater. Dispersants were last used July 19, four days after BP temporarily capped its leaking well.

Which means they must have sprayed much more.

What does it mean when you correct one lie with another?

The ingredients in the dispersants were initially considered classified business information. Under a 1976 federal law, only a handful of employees at the Environmental Protection Agency were privy to those ingredients and were barred from divulging them.

But after pressure from the Obama administration, Corexit’s manufacturer, Nalco Holding, agreed to disclose the ingredients to the full Environmental Protection Agency, which shared them with other federal and state agencies and then made them public.

How many other companies have waivers for everyday products(?).

And you wonder where the cancers come from?

The ingredients include propelyne glycol, a chemical permitted by the FDA as a food additive and used in medicines, cosmetics, and toothpaste; 2-butoxyethanol, which is found in cleaners, liquid soaps, and cosmetics and quickly degrades in the environment; and a proprietary form of sulfonic acid salt, which is moderately toxic to freshwater fish and invertebrates but which the manufacturer says degrades quickly.

Yeah, I'm really trusting this government -- and never mind that blood coming out of your ass:

Toxicologist: Oil/Corexit mix caused heart trouble, organ damage, rectal bleeding

In addition, Corexit contains volatile organic solvents that are made from crude oil and are not considered by the FDA to pose a public health concern because they do not accumulate significantly in the flesh of fish, according to Ireland.

The FDA is not monitoring fish and shellfish for the presence of Corexit because it is not considered a health risk, Ireland said.

Oh, America, your government is LYING TO YOU!!!

If they will LIE TO YOU about this there is NOTHING they will not LIE ABOUT!

Instead, the agency has examined gulf seafood for signs of contamination with oil, which agency scientists say poses a clear health risk to anyone who eats the affected fish.

Sensory specialists working for the FDA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration smelled samples of gulf fish to make sure there was no odor from oil or chemicals.

Oh, they GAVE IT the OLD SMELL TEST, huh?

Well, SOMETHING sure STINKS around here!!

If the samples passed that test, they were subjected to laboratory analysis to detect polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons, which come from oil and some of which can cause cancer and other health effects in humans....

When I see Obomber, his cabinet, and all of Congress tearing into a fish-fest feast from the Gulf for breakfast, lunch, and dinner I will be convinced.

"
BP oil spill: Obama administration's scientists admit alarm over chemicals

The Obama administration is facing internal dissent from its scientists for approving the use of huge quantities of chemical dispersants to tackle the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Guardian has learned.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has come under attack in Congress and from independent scientists for allowing BP to spray almost 2m gallons of the dispersant Corexit on to the slick and, even more controversially, into the leak site 5,000ft below the sea. Now it emerges that EPA's own experts have been raising similar concerns within the agency....
